Weekly Recap #118: Week of 8/18 – 8/24

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I feel like I could pretty much just copy and paste what I wrote here last week because it pretty much was one of those wash, rinse, repeat kind of weeks.  Work, school, and soccer are still the dominant activities of the week, with me starting to attack my September ARCs rounding out what’s happening on the blog front.  September 3rd seems to be a big day for ARCs and I apparently still haven’t learned to check publication dates prior to requesting because I have 5 ARCs to read for that date.  I’ve read two, The Lady Rogue and Well Met, but I still need to read The Girl the Sea Gave Back, Bringing Down the Duke, and The Long Call.  Wish me luck getting them all done in time!

I got a little behind with my ARC reading because I was actually trying to get another backlist book off my list.  I’ve been reading Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik.  It’s a really good book but it’s so long, lol! I’ve been working on it for over two weeks now and am still only at 65%.  I’ll be setting that aside now until I get through the ARCs.

I also got a little distracted this week by all of the Disney news coming out of the D23 Expo.  I was originally on the fence about whether or not to purchase Disney’s streaming service, but after hearing what they have coming out for Star Wars and the Marvel Universe, I’m all in.  The trailer for The Mandalorian and the news that Ming Na Wen would be joining the cast was enough to seal the deal for me.  Love her!

I think that’s pretty much it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

It really does seem that all the books come out at once. Do your best, that’s all you can do. My daughter is so excited about the Disney streaming service. She was such a DCOM fan as a kid, and when they announced a grown up Lizzy Maguire show, she was over the moon.

Good luck with the ARC’s Suzanne! That’s why I pen them in my Google calendar: green for the day I should begin reading and yellow for the day I must post my review. before requesting any other I have a peek at my calendar and avoid more than one ARC the same week!

I was a little torn at first for the same reason, but then the more I thought about it, almost everything I do watch is either Disney, Marvel, or Star Wars. Same with my son so it makes sense for us.

I was just talking to my husband about this Disney streaming service this weekend – now I feel like we need to get it! So much fun stuff coming up. Dating You/Hating You was a fun read!

I love the random quote! LOL
Good luck on your September ARCs! I still have some to read for July and August. August has been so slow in my reading ever since I started to work. But I’m hoping this week goes better. I’m on my planning mojo right now and already planned 7th grade for the entire week! Now 5 more grades to go LOL

I really enjoyed The Long Call but it is over 400 pages. I noticed I have a huge Sept 3 pile. I also LOVED Spinning Silver but I listened on audio so I could do other things at the same time. I hope you have a great week and enjoy your reads!

Yes… when children are involved in a variety of activities at school, the whole thing tends to roll forward on wheels, doesn’t it? I do know what you mean about arcs – I have 3 coming out on 3rd… That said – I’ve just rushed across and requested The Long Call when I saw you had it on your site as I really enjoy her writing:)). Best of luck getting through them all! So of course, I’ll be wishing you a happy and very successful reading week, Suzanne!

I’ve never tried her writing before but have heard great things. I’m glad to hear you’re a fan of her writing. 🙂

Good luck with the ARC’s- I think The Girl The Sea Gave Back looks pretty good. 🙂

I thought the Mandalorian trailer looked pretty good! I might be more excited for that show than the new movie lol.

Ooh, I’ll be looking out for your review for The Girl the Sea Gave Back Suzanne, I have a copy from Netgalley of that one too. I loved book one but tried starting that one a few weeks ago and couldn’t really get into it, which I think might have just been my mood at the time. I typically love viking inspired YA, I blame my husband who loves viking documentaries and drags me around to museum exhibitions. I feel like I’m having one of those weeks too but you’re far more organised, I can’t even look at September release books, I still have review copies to read that were released in September of last year!

Honestly, I am feeling the same about Disney+! I was, at first, like eh. Because, I mean, come on. ANOTHER streamer? But after all these announcements I’m kind of hyped about it and am about to throw my wallet at Disney in excitement to just save time.

Excited to see what you thought of Bringing Down the Duke AND Royal Holiday. Both are on my TBR and I’m really excited for them. Happy reading!! Hope this week treats you well.

Hey, Suzanne, you’re not the only one who doesn’t live a glamorous exciting life, why do you think I just do a monthly recap instead of weekly! I love my boring rut of a life. 😉

I know what you mean about due dates on ARCs sneaking up on you too; when I’m looking at my TBR shelf I have to check the number of pages and make sure my reading fits in with my scheduled ARCs. I know, I’m so odd. Lol! 😉

I have Tessa Gratton´s Lady Hotspur on my wishlist too. Not as an ARC, but hopefully I will get it as print. I know that feeling when you realize at the end of the week that you´ve done pretty much the same you´ve done the week before *smile*
