Can’t Wait Wednesday – MEG & JO by Virginia Kantra

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is MEG & JO by Virginia Kantra.  Little Women is one of my favorite books because of its focus on family and sisterhood, so I couldn’t possibly resist this contemporary retelling.  I love that it focuses on Meg and Jo and I was very intrigued by the idea of Jo living in New York City working as a prep cook and secret food blogger because her career in journalism took a wrong turn.

MEG & JO by Virginia Kantra

Publication Date:  December 3, 2019

From Goodreads:

The timeless classic Little Women inspired this heartwarming modern tale of four sisters from New York Times bestselling author Virginia Kantra.

The March sisters—reliable Meg, independent Jo, stylish Amy, and shy Beth—have grown up to pursue their separate dreams. When Jo followed her ambitions to New York City, she never thought her career in journalism would come crashing down, leaving her struggling to stay afloat in a gig economy as a prep cook and secret food blogger.

Meg appears to have the life she always planned—the handsome husband, the adorable toddlers, the house in a charming subdivision. But sometimes getting everything you’ve ever wanted isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

When their mother’s illness forces the sisters home to North Carolina for the holidays, they’ll rediscover what really matters.

One thing’s for sure—they’ll need the strength of family and the power of sisterhood to remake their lives and reimagine their dreams.

I’ve never read Little Women (but I plan to!), but even not really knowing the original story, this still sounds so good!

I used to avoid re-tellings, but they’ve grown in me over the years and now I can’t seem to get enough of them. 😊 I hope you enjoy this one, Suzanne! Have a great day.

This sounds absolutely brilliant Suzanne and great timing with the new Little Women announcement as well. I haven’t seen many, if any retellings or books closely inspired by Little Women, so super excited and looking forward to seeing the early reviews. I love stopping by your Can’t Wait Wednesday’s, I’m always finding new books I wouldn’t normally discover on my own.

I was eyeing this one on NG. Meg and Jo were such phenomenal characters, and I would love to see how the author brought them into our time period.

THAT COVER!!! I need this. I feel like I’ve been in SUCH a Little Women mood lately that I’m just automatically drooling over any retellings or adaptations and I need to calm down.

I have renewed excitement for it, mainly because of the movie that’s coming out and now because of this retelling. I love the idea of a contemporary retelling.

I saw this and had a hard time not requesting it! December is my ARC catch-up month and didn’t need to be adding more to the pile. Ha ha. I will probably get to it in 2020 because I’m attempting a year of all classics, but I am also going to allow books based on classics and nonfiction books about the authors. 📚✨
