Weekly Recap #116: Week of 8/4 – 8/10

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

It’s hard to believe my son’s summer vacation is over already and he’s headed back to school tomorrow.  It’s even harder to believe that he’s already a 7th grader. Where does the time go?  I don’t think he’s overly excited to go back either.  He was very mopey on Thursday when I took him to the back-to-school events to meet his teacher and see where all of his classes are.  Hopefully he’ll snap out of it once he’s back and with his friends again. If not, we’re in for a long school year, lol.

Aside from back-to-school stuff, it was a fairly average week. Work, soccer, play with the puppy (who is already 27 lbs, by the way, OMG!), read a little, eat, sleep, repeat.  We did go see the live action Lion King movie last Sunday.  It was better than I expected it to be, but at the same time, it was so close to the original cartoon that my main thoughts while I was watching were “Why did this need to be remade?  What does making it Live Action really add to the overall story?”  So basically, I enjoyed it overall but thought it was a little unnecessary.  That’s my take on most reboots and remakes though so I guess I’m not surprised at my reaction.  The music is great of course.  Can’t go wrong with Elton John and Tim Rice.

I had gotten a little behind again with my blogging and commenting, but I think I got all caught up yesterday. If I did miss your site though, give me a yell and I’ll swing by.  The bad part about spending all day yesterday getting caught up there is that I fell behind on my IronThrone readalong challenge again.  Hopefully I can get caught up on that today.  It’s a vicious cycle, lol!

Anyway, I think that’s pretty much it for me.  And here’s one final reminder that I have a giveaway running for a free book of your choice up to $20 in value from The Book Depository.  The giveaway is to celebrate the 12th blogoversary of ShootingStarsMag   It runs through August 16th and is open internationally as long as TBD ships to you, so be sure to enter if you haven’t already.

Have a great week, everyone!

I’m hoping to start Nina’s book soon! And yay for getting caught up on your commenting! I need to catch up on the replying aspect of it. I’m way behind on that. I remember loving the back to school shopping but not so much the actual going to school lol I do hope your son bounces back and enjoys it 🙂

I hope you enjoy Nina’s book. This was my first time reading something from her and I really enjoyed it. Yes, I hope my son bounces back. I think he will once he gets back into the routine.

Wow, back to school already! It’s not usually fun going back but then you get back into the swing of things pretty quickly.
I feel the same about these movie reboots, they feel a little unnecessary.
Enjoy your books! The Winemaker’s Wife looks interesting.

Yes, he definitely seemed in a much better mood once he got home today and wanted to talk about how many friends he has in each class.

The summer break sure passed in a flash. I think most schools here start on Tuesday. My niece starts 6th grade this week and I don’t think she’s too thrilled, either. LOL I have On the Corner of Love and Hate, too, but I’m not sure when I’ll get to it. Hope you have a great Sunday!

That’s my issue with the Disney live action remakes too – they seem to be basically the exact same movie as the original. As much of a Disney fan as I am, I haven’t been keeping up with the live action ones. I’m sure I’ll see them at some point, though!

I love shopping for school supplies too, mainly because I always end up picking up a few colorful office supplies for myself as well. They always have the best stuff available when it’s back to school time, lol.

    Ha! I love that meme.

Yes, I am with you on the reboots. So much so, that the only one I watched was Beauty & the Beast. It soured me to watching any of the others, because it was a total regurgitation of the Disney cartoon. The scenery was stunning and lush, but not enough to carry the reboot for me.

    Thanks for sharing! 🙂

The only one I’ve ever really enjoyed was the one they did for 101 Dalmatians and that’s just because Glenn Close was perfection as Cruella DeVille.

Ah… He has my sympathy – I’ve always dreaded the end of the holiday, even when I loved school. And that’s the same as a teacher, too – lol… Hopefully after the first week is over and he’s back in the swing of things, he’ll settle back in and wonder why he dreaded it. What are you feeding that puppy?? Are you sure it’s not a small pony? I hope you have a good week, Suzanne.

Yes he came home in much better spirits today than he left the house this morning. I think he was content once he saw how many friends had the same classes he did.

I hope your son has a great first week back to school. My daughter heads back to school tomorrow too. I’m suddenly remembering stuff we need that I’ve forgotten . . . Last minute errands today! We were hoping to see the new Lion King this weekend, but it wasn’t meant to be. She chose to see Aladdin again instead. My husband was just joking about Disney making a Finding Nemo “live action”. I really hope that’s not a plan. Haha.

I hope you are enjoying your current reads! I am anxious to hear what you thought of Sarah Jio’s new book, and look forward to your review. I still need to read The Tattooist of Auschwitz. Cilka’s Journey sounds heartbreaking. I hope to read that one as well.

I hope you have a great week, Suzanne. Best wishes to your son.

I hope your daughter’s first day of school went well! Oh gosh, I don’t even want to think about a live action Nemo, lol.

The summer goes by so fast Suzanne! For me it will be different as none of my kids will be back in school just uni for my daughter! Have a great week!

We start the next week and yeah I can’t believe it’s that time already. Crazy. I kinda felt that way about The Lion King too- I haven’t seen it yet but I was wondering why we needed a remake if it’s the same story.

A Death in Chelsea looks like one I’d like.

      Suzanne says:

Yeah, I just don’t get these live action remakes. The only one I’ve really loved is the one for 101 Dalmatians and that’s just because Glenn Close is so epic as Cruella Deville.

I keep asking myself the same thing every time they announce another live action cartoon adaptation. Here’s a concept: come up with something new. I hope your son’s enthusiasm for 7th grade improves, though I must admit, those first days are tough.

My kids started school on the 5th and my middle child said first grade is boring and she wants school to be over. I’m hoping she does better this week. Absolutely! I was hoping the Lion King would add more to the story like I’ve always been obsessed with Scar and personally, I would love to know his real history.

I also have On The Corner of Love and Hate and I hope we both enjoy it.

I hope you have a wonderful week and your son enjoys his first day.

Have a wonderful reading week. I hope you enjoy The Bodies in the Library (it caught my eye because of the books on the cover); I’m curious to see your thoughts on it!

HAH! I love the Totally Random. I liked school for the most part growing up, but it was never fun to first go back…so hopefully your son will be okay once he’s in the groove again. 🙂 I’m sure I’ll see the new Lion King at some point, but I really want to see Aladdin more.
