Weekly Recap #97: Week of 3/24 – 3/30

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

Before I forget, today is the last day of my 3rd Blogoversary Giveaway so be sure to enter if you haven’t already. It’s for a free book of your choice up to $20.  —>  Enter for your chance to win a free book!

I think my biggest accomplishment this week was that I made it through the last Fantasy ARC that I had on my review schedule for the Spring.  I really enjoyed both Wicked Saints and Descendant of the Crane, but I think I’m ready to take a break and read from other genres for a while.  I don’t have any other Fantasy ARCs on my schedule as of right now until August and I’ve been requesting contemporaries, historical fiction, and some thrillers to give myself a good variety to choose from.  Once I’m ready for more fantasy, I plan to focus more on the books from my backlist, especially series that I’ve started and not finished.  Plans don’t always work out, especially where shiny, new books are concerned, but we’ll see how this goes.

The book I’m most excited about right now is The Bride Test, which I recently won in a giveaway from Jennifer – Tar Heel Reader.  Thanks Jenni!  I hardly ever win giveaways so this really made my day. I can’t wait to read it.  I think 3 April ARCs to get to and then it’s next on my list!

Not too much else has really gone on aside from the usual.  At work, there’s two weeks left until the tax deadline so I’m sure we’ll be crazy busy until then and probably beyond depending on how many returns we extend.  In soccer news, even though my son didn’t make the school team, his first game for Parks & Rec soccer is this Wednesday.  Because he has been doing so much training all winter, he’s going to play offense instead of defense this season so I’m hoping it will be pretty exciting to watch.  He’s also continuing his training for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad to see that not making the school team hasn’t killed his enthusiasm for the sport.

Lastly, in what I’ve been watching on TV/Netflix news, I finished season 2 of Riverdale on Netflix this week so I’m caught up until they put the next season on there, and am now trying to decide what to start next. There’s also a part of me though that just wants to cancel my subscription after they jacked up the price and then immediately cancelled One Day at a Time, which was one of my favorite shows on there.  Aside from my Netflix dilemma, I am also anxiously awaiting the new seasons of Game of Thrones and The 100.

Okay that’s it for now.  Have a great week, everyone!

I totally get needing to change up on genres. I try to do that to my reading so I don’t get bored. Yay for winning The Bride Test. Great book to win. Hope you enjoy One Summer in Paris. Also Netflix does annoy me with the rate increase and cancelling shows. I don’t think I can cut the cord though. Have a great week!!

Oooh you are so lucky to have won The Bride Test!!! And I get what you mean by having enough of a particular genre. Sometimes if we are “pushed” to go on with ARCs awaiting us we end up rating them lower than what we would have had we taken that break! Happy Sunday!

Descendent of the Crane is one I’m going to start soon, so I’m curious what you thought! It also looks like you have a lot of wonderful upcoming books! I’m a little jealous about The Bride Test! I loved The Kiss Quotient, and I’m hoping this one is just as amazing. Happy reading!

Haha my checks goes to books and toys. Bummer your son did not make the school team. Thank goodness he is still wanting to play for Parks and Recs. I loved the first season for Riverdale. Watch a few here and there for season 2 but I do not know why but had a hard time getting into it. So sad Luke Perry passed away. We will watch Game Of Thrones whenever we get a free week. So I will be behind in watching.

    Happy Reading

That really was sad about Luke Perry. I had just started to watch the series when he passed away and got so sad every time I saw him in an episode.

Hi Suzanne, congrats on your 3rd anniversary! 🙂 Sounds like you have lots of reading ahead. I will be checking out last week’s review of Serious Moonlight. A suggestion for Netflix series, try “Great News”. It is really quite charming and LOL. Will have you giggling off the couch. So, if you’re looking for something light and fun you’ll enjoy it. I’m just finishing up Season 2. It’s written by Tina Fey (who I’m kind of tired of) and she makes an appearance in Season 2. I thought it would be lame but she actually is hilarious in it.

Happy blogoversary Suzanne! Three years is amazing and my goodness, look how far you’ve come! What’s been the highlight of your blogging so far? That cover for Wilder Girls is absolutely amazing, it’s really quite mesmerising and looking forward to seeing what you think of it. I’m probably one of the few people who don’t have Netflix. Netflix Australia is pretty shit and doesn’t have the same variety as the US site. We have pay TV and can’t really afford the added expense.

Thanks Kelly! I definitely think the highlight has been all of the friends I’ve made through blogging. It’s just wild to be able to chat with bookish peeps all over the world about our favorite books. 🙂

I am glad to hear your son is doing ok after the whole team thing, and that it didn’t ruin soccer for him. Good for him! I am a little jealous you got the new Christina June. I was rejected for that one. I hope it’s good.

I was really surprised to get approved for the Christina June. Blink usually always rejects me so it was a very pleasant surprise.

Yay for only two weeks left to tax season! I know you (and my sister) will be very happy when it’s over. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on The Mother-In-Law, and The Opposite of Always is one I’m looking forward to as well.

I always have to switch around in genres. I’m usually reading a book and listening to an audio and I don’t do as well when they are the same genre.

I also have the Bride Test in my eARC pile. Really I have great stuff to read. If only I didn’t have to do anything else. Have a wonderful week!

Did you see the The 100 trailer? I’m not sure what I think, to be honest. Although I’m definitely ready for a new season (and Game of Thrones is almost HERE). Wow.

I feel much the same about Netflix. I was so mad when they canceled Travelers and raised their prices! Argh. I did just start The Order though and it’s okay so far.

I did see The 100 trailer and it had my head spinning a bit. We’ll see how it goes. And I’m so ready for GoT. It can’t get here fast enough!

I’m glad you made it through your fantasy ARCs. I can totally understand needing a break. I have actually been heavily into Annette Marie’s Urban Fantasy this month and then also reading some lighter fantasy, catching up on Tamora Pierce’s Tortall books, which for me is more like a comfort read than diving into any other YA fantasy. I will be catching back up with Six of Crows reread and then finally on to King of Scars though, so there’s still a lot of fantasy in my schedule. 🙂 I’m not complaining!

Hope that you have an awesome month!! 🙂

Thanks! I’m really hoping after taking a breather that I’ll be ready to dive back into fantasy because I still have so many fantasy books I want to read soon, including King of Scars and The Wicked King.

They majority of my 2019 review pile is YA fantasy which is not ideal right now. I’m so burnout!

I’m so happy you won a copy of The Bride Test! IM sooo excited for that one. I might sneak it in my TBR early.

I’m excited fro The Bride Test and I’m thinking it might be my next read. I managed to get it from Edelweiss when it was just available for download, no request needed, so that was pretty awesome. That one and The UnHoneymooners are two that I have really high hopes for.

Oh yes, he’s definitely still a big soccer fan, especially after his Parks & Rec team won their first game 7-0!
