Weekly Recap #92: Week of 2/17 – 2/23

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

As I type up this week’s update post, I’m sitting here staring out my window, wondering yet again if the rain will ever end.  My front and back yard look like lakes, as if we’ve simply run out of places for the water to go.  The ground here is so saturated that during a small snow and ice storm that hit the area last week, my son missed two days of school, one for the actual weather and then one because trees came down all over the county, taking down power lines with them.  The outages were widespread enough that several schools in the county had no electricity, thus the bonus day off.  Something seriously needs to give on the weather front.

I don’t have much else to report this week.  My son’s soccer coach has added a speed and agility class to our already packed training schedule, so now we have soccer from 4-7pm on Wednesdays.  Thankfully he only wants him to attend this extra class for a few weeks because it is definitely a time killer that has us not getting home until nearly 8pm.  It will also probably mean minimal blogging that day just because there’s still homework, etc. to contend with once we finally do get home.  My son is planning to try out for his middle school team in a few weeks so I’m really hoping that all of this extra training helps him to achieve his goal.

Speaking of blogging, as most know, I’ve been trying to cut back on how many ARCs I request and focus more on books I already own.  That said, I still have a pretty long listing of pending requests, some of which have been pending for months so I wasn’t expecting to get them.  I got unexpected approvals for both Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett and Middlegame by Seanan McGuire, and am so excited to read both of them.  I’m so excited for the Bennett book that it took everything in me not to drop all of the other books I’m reading and dive into that one, lol.

I had some really great reads this week too.  Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee was a lot of fun, and I also loved You Owe Me a Murder, which I breezed through in one day and which reminded me of the old Strangers on a Train movie.  It’s definitely one of the better YA thrillers I’ve read.  I’ll be reviewing both of these books this week, so stay tuned!

I think that’s about it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

Suzanne it seems to me the weather is really harsh for you! And all the time you invest for your son’s training is admirable! I always told my kids that I did not want them to play soccer or volleyball or …because being a commuter I would never have been able to drive them to all their required training! And I am still a little bit jealous that you already read Rayne and delilah LOL Happy Sunday

Thanks, it can be challenging but thankfully the company I work for is is good about letting me change up my schedule as needed so I can take him to all of his training classes.

Glad you are enjoying your reads and yes, this weather needs to get better already. That sounds like a lot of rain.
Good luck with the soccer tryouts!

That’s a long night of soccer! I hope your son makes his middle school team though! And hopefully it stops raining where you live. Not cool.

I really want to read You Asked for Perfect and Daisy Jones, so I hope you love those.

Wow, I can’t believe rain causing all of that! We haven’t had much snow this winter, but it seems the state and school districts are being extra cautious, so there are lots of early dismissals and delayed openings even when there’s not really any reason.

Good luck with the football tryouts! I love watching young players play in our local club. They have so much potential. Of course not every one becomes Ronaldo or Gerrard, but sport has a beneficial effect on life.

The weather has been brutal to you. My sympathies. I remember, when my daughter started getting serious about dance, and it became my whole life – 15 hours+ a week of rehearsal and then whole lost weekends of competitions. Good luck with the schedule. I am sure your son will appreciate all the time you are giving to it.

Sounds like you have been super busy, especially with your son’s schedule. I can relate–but with dance and not soccer. I wish your son the best with his goals! I am excited about Middlegame and hope it is as good as it sounds. I look forward to your thoughts on it. I really need to cut back on the ARC’s too. I need to catch up with the ones I have. I used to think I could use my daughter’s dance classes as times when I could spend reading, but it hasn’t worked out that way. I hope you have a great week, Suzanne! Enjoy your reading.

I’ve been trying to use my time sitting around at soccer practice to get reading done. Usually it works out well for me but every once in a while, a chatty parent or two makes it difficult.

Serious Moonlight does look really good. And oh my gosh You Owe Me A Murder sounds fabulous! I just went over to Goodreads to check it out, and yes please lol. How have I not heard of this one? Definitely adding it,

Hope the rain stops soon! We had blowing winds and a little hail here today, but thankfully not much new snow. Is it spring yet?? 🙂

LOL, you wouldn’t know it from my haul this week, but I too have been cutting back and reaching for own books or just buying books on backlist.

I hope it dries up for you. I am counting the days until Spring although we have seen snow as late as May.

What wild weather! We had similar flooding because of the snow melting then thunderstorms on Saturday, and now today is like a high of 20. I don’t like it.

I just finished You Owe Me a Murder. I hope you liked it!

Sorry about the weather! But at least you have some new ARCs that you are looking forward to 🙂 Beasts of the Frozen Sun sounds amazing and I love the cover!

Hopefully the rain will stop this week. Enough already. I’m excited for Daisy Jones. I’ve seen a few people who didn’t like the format but I still have high hopes. Taylor Jenkins Reid has never disappointed me before.

Last week it rained ALL THE TIME here. It was supposed to dry up this week. Well we did have sun from Sunday to Tuesday but now, Wed it is raining again and now the forecast is rain the rest of the week, colder temps, by next week down to 20 and possibly snow. UGH. I feel ya.

I have my ARCs under control. My bigger issue is my purchases and library books. And I have so many things I want to read which aren’t in any of those 3 places!

I hope you have a better, drier week! Hopefully you can read during soccer practice?

I actually do try to squeeze in some reading while I’m at soccer practice. Some days it works out better than others, but I’ll take anything I can get, lol.

Yup I find myself wondering the same about the snow this week! My kids missed two days of school too! And what’s worse… SOCCER WAS CANCELLED! (haha I’m a soccer mom so… #priorities! lol) We had so many practices and now TWO tournament cancelled this weekend (SOBS LOUDLY) My kids started speed and agility too! Getting ready for outdoors! 🙂
from one soccer mom to another… I HEAR YOU!

It really is amazing how much time soccer eats up. I do love watching the games though so it’s all worth it in the end. 🙂
