Weekly Recap #90: Week of 2/3 – 2/9

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

After our Arctic blast a couple of weeks ago, we were finally treated to some lovely 60-70 degree weather this past week.  I knew with all of the yoyo-like temperatures we’ve had lately that eventually I’d end up sick.  This week unfortunately ended up being the week, and not only did I get sick, but my husband did as well.   I got sick first, catching what was either the flu or the worst cold I’ve ever had from a coworker I was training last week.  We probably should have cancelled the training but were just desperate to get it in before busy season is in full swing.  I thought I had escaped the sickness but woke up Thursday morning sweating profusely, achy all over, and running a fever of 102.3.  I ended up calling in sick Thursday and Friday because I felt so badly, but thankfully am feeling much better today aside from a nagging cough and some congestion.  Unfortunately though, as soon as I started to feel better, my husband came down with it. He’s not even convinced he got it from me because apparently almost everyone at his work has been sick lately too.  My son has been lucky so far, so I’m really hoping that luck holds so he doesn’t miss school.

I saw this photo on the Facebook page of the local NBC station and had to laugh because it’s so true, especially this year.

Not too much else went on this week.  Since I didn’t feel well enough to do much else, I did get a ton of reading done. I only have one more February ARC left to read so I’m excited about that and plan to get back to my backlist reading as soon as that one is read.  I also, as of right now anyway, only have 5 ARCs for March so I think that’s going to be a big backlist month for me.  I guess it probably sounds weird to be excited about not having many ARCs, but I am just so eager to meet my goal of reading more books that are sitting on my shelves that I’m thrilled when there’s any window of opportunity to do that without worrying about not meeting ARC deadlines.

When I wasn’t reading this week, I was continuing with my Gilmore Girls binge on Netflix and finishing up season 5 of Grace and Frankie.  Next up for me will be to finish the final season of Kimmy Schmidt and then to start The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and see if it lives up to the hype.  I’m also hoping to watch Bohemian Rhapsody this week since it’s coming out on Redbox.  I missed it when it was at the theater but keep hearing good things about it so now I’m very curious.

I think that’s about it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

Susan this seems like a trend this week with so many people sick while I am finally blog hopping today! My son and hubs are feeling bad too today so let’s hope I won’t catch it! Now you just got two of my favorite books this month The Wicked King and A Curse so Dark and Loneley!!!! Happy reading and I hope you’ll feel better soon.

Oh, my, I’m glad you’re feeling better now, even though your husband is sick! One of the lawyers I work with came to the office with strep throat, but he claims he’s not contagious. If any of us get sick, we know who to blame.

My husband is still feeling pretty awful, but I finally started to feel a lot better today. Still not quite 100% but I’m sure I’ll get there soon.

Thanks, I’m feeling much better today and am hoping that’s the last time I get sick this year.

Right? I’m really going to miss Kimmy Schmidt. I loved how random each episode was and always so hilarious.

Oh no! I’m so sorry that you’ve been so sick, Suzanne – I know so many of my students have been smitten. I hope both you and your husband feel a LOT better very soon!

Thanks Sarah. I’m feeling much better today, so I’m hoping my hubby will be on the mend soon too. It’s a nasty bug though. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Ugh, sorry to hear you’ve been sick. Sounds utterly miserable. Hope both you and your husband are feeling better – and that your son stays healthy. I saw on IG that you’re reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I seriously love that one. Evelyn is an unforgettable character. Complex and flawed and unapologetic. I’ve read the book and listened to the audio and both were excellent. Can’t wait to read your thoughts on it!

Oh gosh, being sick is just the worst. I’m glad you are feeling better and I hope your son doesn’t get sick. I’ve had it around me, so fingers crossed I don’t come down with anything. Too much to do! Yay for getting lots of reading in though. 🙂

Sometimes I wonder if the weather is really THAT different this year or I just don’t remember much from last year. I know we had more snow by this time last year, but other than that, I think it yo-yoed last year too. Sorry you all were sick. Hope you are feeling better.

I want to see Bohemian too and then I’ll probably be listening to Queen music for the next month lol. And hope you guys feel better soon! Sounds like a nasty bug!

I love that Virginia Seasons thing! Heck that could almost describe Michigan too half the time. 🙂 I think we have several winters…

Lol, I’m sure I’ll be the same way with the Queen music.

Thanks! I’m finally feeling better today but yeah, that was one nasty bug. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Oh no! I hope your family is feeling better. My kids had the flu this week, thankfully I only had a cold and didn’t catch it. At least, you are almost done with ARCs! I have a couple, I need to catch up but I’ve been in a bit of a slump so I haven’t gotten much reading done lately. You owe me murder has a catching title. I’ll have to check it out. I hope this week is much better for you!

Bohemian Rhapsody is really good. They changed a bunch of events for “the drama”, but it diesn’t bother me. A real treat for a Queen fan. Sabrina was a huge let-down, though. Hope you get better!

Sorry to hear you were feeling so ill – and that it spread around your house. I’m hoping this new week is one of well health for you & your family!

I’ve been listening to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo on audio this month. I’m really enjoying it – how are you finding it?

A lovely week to you & happy reading!

Ah no! Sorry you both ended up with the flu! It’s the most miserable thing… I’m noticing more and more bloggers (myself included) are wanting to spend more time working through the backlist at the moment. Either that or because it’s something I’m doing myself, I’m picking up on it more. Either way, enjoy! I’m having a lot of fun with it.

We had three days in the 50s last week, and I had all the windows open, but now it’s back in the teens and I’m grumpy. 😏 I’ve got some kind of cold/flu thing going in right now, too. I hope your son managed to stay clear of it. 😷

I’m looking forward to your review for Crown of Feathers! 📚✨

Your haul is fantastic, but I am so sorry to hear about the flu. Since i am at risk, as are the Royals we get the flu shot every year, but last years didn’t cover the strain that hit the Midwest and I remember all too well how awful it was. I hope both you and your hubby are fully recovered.
