Can’t Wait Wednesday – CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT by Brigid Kemmerer

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT by Brigid Kemmerer.  I fell in love with Kemmerer’s contemporary novels Letters to the Lost and More Than We Can Tell, so I was thrilled to see she has another one coming out this year.  The plot sounds fantastic too – the exploration of the question of whether or not it’s okay to do something wrong for the right reason.

From Goodreads:

When his dad is caught embezzling funds from half the town, Rob goes from popular lacrosse player to social pariah. Even worse, his father’s failed suicide attempt leaves Rob and his mother responsible for his care.

Everyone thinks of Maegan as a typical overachiever, but she has a secret of her own after the pressure got to her last year. And when her sister comes home from college pregnant, keeping it from her parents might be more than she can handle.

When Rob and Maegan are paired together for a calculus project, they’re both reluctant to let anyone through the walls they’ve built. But when Maegan learns of Rob’s plan to fix the damage caused by his father, it could ruin more than their fragile new friendship…

This captivating, heartfelt novel asks the question: Is it okay to do something wrong for the right reasons?

This sounds like it is going to be quite an emotional read! I am not sure that I have ever read a book that featured a lacrosse player before. I am really intrigued by that. Thanks for sharing this one! 🙂

I agree this sounds like a good one. And I like it when books explore premises like this- do the ends justify the means? Sounds like a great contemp!

I don’t know why exactly Rob speaks to me, but I genuinely felt so sorry for him reading this blurb. This is a lovely pick, Suzanne, and is no doubt going to be emotional!

This is a YES PLEASE for me too. I don’t even care what it’s about, because Kemmerer’s contemporaries are utter delights for me.

Right? I’m the exact same way with her contemporaries. I also just got my copy of A Curse So Dark and Lonely so I’m hoping I’ll end up being the same way about her fantasy books.
