Weekly Recap #86: Week of 1/6 – 1/12

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I’m sitting here watching the snow fall as I type this post. Based on the latest forecast, we’re supposed to get 8-12″ of snow between now and Sunday night.  We don’t do snow here in Central Virginia so it should make for an interesting few days as far as work and school goes.  I spent most of today getting most of my errands and chores done, so I’m hoping to be able to spend tomorrow snuggled up by the fire reading.

Speaking of reading, I’ve gotten off to a pretty good start this year. As of today, I’ve finished six books and am about halfway through my seventh.  I only have two more January ARCs to read so I’m hoping to get those wrapped up this week and then get started on my February ones.  I’m reading 96 Words for Love right now and it’s not really holding my attention. If that doesn’t change soon, it might end up being my first DNF of 2019 because life is too short to waste on books that aren’t for me. The upcoming read I’m most excited about is The Lost Girls of Paris.  Pam Jenoff’s last book was incredible so I have very high hopes for this one too.

Honestly, not much else is going on. It has been pretty quiet. Season 5 of Grace & Frankie drops on Netflix this Friday, so I’m pretty excited about that.  In the meantime, I’ve been binge watching Gilmore Girls for the third time.  I have tons of new shows in my Netflix queue that I want to start, so I don’t even know why I’m re-watching an old show yet again.  I guess maybe it’s a comfort thing. Who knows?

I think that’s about it for now.  Have a great week, everyone!

Wow 6 books already is great! Stay warm, we are expecting just a few flurries today. I agree life is too short for so-so books.
Happy reading and Netflix watching. My daughter and I have been hooked on Adventures of Sabrina this past week.

Urg – snow! Stay safe and warm. We’re only set up for drizzle here in the UK, so our corner of the southern coast lurches to halt with anything more than an inch of snow – I hate the stuff… I’m so impressed with your storming start to 2019 – mine has been pathetic. Have a great week, Suzanne:)

I like looking at the snow, as long as I don’t have to venture out in it. I’ll be completely over it by tomorrow morning when I have to drive to work in it.

You’re in central VA too? Small world! We woke to about 3 inches, and it’s still coming down. I’m hoping for 6 or 7 total, but we’ll see. It’s the fine stuff, not the big fluffly flakes, so it takes longer to accumulate.

You are doing great on the reading this year! I’m in a bit of a slump, and trying to figure out how to get out of it. I’m behind my Goodreads goal already, and that’s not a good thing. 🙁

I love the cover of 96 Words for Love! Too bad it’s not keeping your attention. But I agree; though there are some books it’s worth struggling through even if you aren’t enjoying them, generally speaking it’s just fine to DNF a book if it isn’t grabbing you.

Enjoy your snow day, and happy reading!

Six books – now that’s one way to start a year! How I wish we could get some snow up here. You’d think living in Scandinavia would get you at least few snowy days. Anyway, happy reading!

Whoa, that’s a lot of snow. Sounds like your year is off to a great start reading-wise – with the exception of your current read. No fun to have a DNF first thing in the year. Hope it picks up.

      Suzanne says:

Yes, aside from that one DNF, everything else I’ve read has been pretty good. I’m hoping that book will turn out to be just an isolated incident.

I’m reading THe Lost Girls of Paris soon, too, Suzanne! I hope we both love it, and I have a review for The Suspect coming up this week. I look forward to your thoughts on that and Wartime Sisters. Happy week ahead!

I look forward to reading your review of The Suspect. I’ll be posting my review for The Wartime Sisters tomorrow and hopefully starting The Lost Girls of Paris then too. I have really high hopes for it being a great read.

Wow, that’s a lot of snow! We haven’t really gotten any here yet, at least since a small freak storm in November. No matter how many years I live in a state that gets significant amounts of snow every year, I will never learn how to drive in it. Enjoy any days off you might get!

The weather and climate in general is going bonkers Suzanne! We usually have frost and snow in winter but nothing, nada! And you never have snow and will be buried under. Sigh. Now Dark of the West seems intriguing! Enjoy 😉

I think we got a couple inches, but it’s nothing too bad. We’re supposed to get more in the next week or two though, so we’ll see what comes of that!! Hope you got lots of reading in this weekend. Great job on all you’ve read so far. I’ve read 3 books in 2019 so far.

So much snow! But you are off to a good reading start! I’m not. I’m reading so slowly lately lol. I just keep adding shows to my list on Netflix and then never actually watching anything, at least you’re enjoying some shows, even if they’re rewatches, haha. Have a great week!

DNF-ing can be therapeutic — and you’re right life is too short for boring books. YES! Grace and Frankie to look forward to this week! Thanks for the heads up!

Winter cold days are perfect to stay at home reading – who wants to go out into the cold and snow? January is being such a great reading month for you. Six books already?! That’s amazing! Congrats!

Wishes of a great week. Stay warm. 🙂

I don’t binge watch, but if I did, GG would be one to watch. My sister gave me the DVDs back when, but like I said, I am not a big re-watcher. It’s good to know they are there, though. I hope the weather report was wrong! 8-12 inches of snow would make me cry. Heck! An inch of snow makes me cranky. I feel like I dodged a bullet getting rejected for 96 Words. I have seen a bunch of meh reviews, so, you are not alone, and I agree with you – life’s too short to waste time on things you are enjoying.

I ended up DNFing it last night. I can’t even explain why it wasn’t working for me, but yes, I have too many other books to read to spend time on one that just doesn’t appeal to me.

6 books is amazing! I’ve been struggling to read anything since Christmas and hadn’t even managed one. However, a kids book of less than 30pages gave me my first complete book of 2019 a couple of days ago, lol.

    Enjoy your snow!

You are doing so good with reading! I’ve been in a bit of reading slump. Nothing I’ve read has really caught my attention or made me love it. I’m re-reading You by Caroline Kepnes so I can watch You on Netflix.

The cover of 96 words is gorgeous but I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you. I hope your next read is much better.
