Weekly Recap #78: Week of 11/11 -11/17

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I don’t know if anyone noticed or not but I pulled a little disappearing act midweek. The reason for my disappearance was that I was busy with a million other things, the most important of which being that I completely forgot that we had scheduled our end of season soccer party for this weekend and had done absolutely nothing to plan for it.  We usually have our party in early October when the season is supposed to end, but our schedule was so out of whack because of the weather that everything got pushed way back.  Thankfully I was able to recover from my memory lapse and pull together something decent for the kids, but something had to go to make time for it and that something was the blog, lol.

Even though I failed a bit with the blogging last week, I still managed to keep up with my reading pretty well.  I actually got in a few extra hours of reading this week by reading while waiting for my son to complete his soccer lessons.  With that extra time, I was able to make it through 3 out of the 4 HoHoHoRAT reads I had selected for the readathon and I started on the fourth one last night.  I don’t know if I’ll finish it before the end of the readathon, but I’m glad I was able to make it through as many as I did considering how many other commitments I ended up having this past week.

Reading all of those Christmas books also has me thinking about Christmas weeks earlier than I normally do. I’m ready to start decorating, which has never happened this early before. Normally December 1 is when I start, but I’m ready to put up the tree this week.  The only catch to that is that my husband and I have finally decided to make the switch from a fresh cut tree to an artificial one so now we have to go out and find one that we both like and that is the right size for our living room.  We really need a 7′, which seems to be the most popular size AND seems to be sold out everywhere. I didn’t realize I needed to shop for a tree months in advance to actually get one, lol.  We’re going out again later today so hopefully we’ll get lucky. May the Christmas force be with us!

I think that’s it for me.  I hope everyone has a great week!

OMG Michelle Obama! True story, I live in Burbank CA and Ellen DeGeneres and Michelle Obama went to our Costco to film an episode of the Ellen show last week! Of course I missed it because it was super secret, but I am dying to read her book😁

That’s great that you still got a ton of reading done, even with all your other commitments! I think we’re going to start decorating for Christmas next weekend. We don’t do a tree, but we’ll get our lights up outside!

You’ve got some good looking books that you’re reading right now. I am so far behind on my reading. I usually start the Saturday after Thanksgiving decorating. I’m actually dreading it a little this year. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. The 3 year old does good to not touch, but my 1 year old doesn’t listen at all about stuff like that. And I don’t want to have to put a gate around the tree. Anyway. hope you have a great week!

Oh yes, I’d be dreading it too if I had two little ones. I remember when my son was that age and I would decide not to even unpack certain fragile decorations for fear they would end up shattered.

Looking forward to your review of The Christmas Sisters! I’ve got that on audio. I’m in a pretty long queue for Becoming. Can’t wait to read it. You’ve got some great reads ahead, Suzanne.

I’m not surprised about the long queue for Becoming. I also just read that as of today, Becoming is the fastest selling book of 2018 at B&N.

OMG Suzanne that was a close call LOL But something I could see myself forgetting too as I always have so many things running at the same time. Glad you still made it a success! Now I see that you bought Becoming Michelle Obama and as I don’t usually read non fiction I stull want to buy this one so I will be very curious about your review 😉 Happy Sunday!

I haven’t found my Christmas spirit yet – I think I lost it a few years ago. Anyway, I hope you and your husband find the perfect tree. We have an artificial tree, but we can never built it because of my cats. They love climb it and throw it to the floor.

Wishes of a happy week! 😉

This fall has been crazy chaotic! When does soccer season end?

We usually put our Christmas decorations up on Black Friday but we’ve been tempted to do so even earlier. It feels like everyone has started a bit earlier this year.

One of our neighbors actually decorated the day after Halloween. I was so shocked when I looked outside that night and saw the giant Santa blowup in their front yard, lol.

I agree and I’m just over doing that much work for a tree. What we found looks nice and is pre-lit so it should take way less time to set it up and decorate it.

I’m delighted to see you have got hold of Muse of Nightmares – I really enjoyed the duology. And I’m a bit awestruck that you are getting organised for Christmas already! I normally leave it until halfway through December… Though I’d like to be more prepared this year, if possible. Have a great week!

Love how you snuck reading in in spite of the many commitments! Do you keep aside a set number of hours/minutes a day for reading?

Aah, you have Winter of the Witch AND Muse of Nightmares! I’m so jelly! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on both books 🙂

After, I think, two years(?) my family is finally getting a Christmas tree! Happy Christmas tree shopping!

Good job with HoHoHoRAT. It’s definitely a good way to get into the spirit. When we switched from real to artificial, we waiting until the end of the season and got a great deal on a tree. I am surprised you cannot still find great ones now. Good luck with the search, and I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving!

That 7 foot tree seems to be the hardest to find. There were tons of 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 foot trees still available. We ended up going with the 7 1/2 foot and I have my fingers crossed that my tree topper will fit it.

I’m glad everything worked out with the party in the end 🙂
And yessss! for some reason, I’m feeling all Christmasy early this year as well. I’m usually never like this, but I feel like Christmas comes and goes so fast that I want to start earlier to hold on to the moment longer. 😆 Also, good luck at finding a tree, I didn’t know they would be sold out already. Hope you have a lovely week ahead. 💋 xoxo

It seemed to be just the 7 foot trees that were gone already. We ended up going with a 7 1/2 foot and are praying it fits in our living room, lol.

Wow! I’m glad you managed to sort out the party! What a relief. Gosh, I didn’t realise all the Christmas trees would be sold so quickly either! We normally decorate around 1 December as well but we’re going away for Christmas this year so I’m not sure what we should do. 🙈 If it were just the hubby and I we wouldn’t do anything but now… With a small person I think we’re obligated to still go the whole hog and just clean it up when we get home. 🤣 Oh I really hope you enjoy Muse! I need to read that but I wanted to take the time to reread Strange. I also need to read The Bear and the Nightingale and I have high hopes for that series. Hope you’re having a lovely week!

It really has been a busy time lately. We usually decorate the day after Thanksgiving, and I’m ready! Good luck with tree shopping–we’ve been using an artificial tree for a while and I personally really prefer it.

I’m reading Once Upon a River right now as well and oh man, I am in love with this book so far! I hope you also love it and the other books here. I’m hoping to get to Muse of Nightmares soon as well.
