Top Ten Tuesday, the Wanderlust edition: Top 10 Books That Make Me Want to Pack a Bag & Grab My Passport

Created at canva.com

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.  Top Ten Tuesday has been one of my favorite memes ever since I started blogging, so huge thanks to Jana for taking over the hosting duties!

This week’s TTT topic is Top 10 Books that Give Me Wanderlust.  Books always make me want to travel so this was a pretty easy topic for me.  To make this week’s list a little different from travel lists I’ve done in the past, I’ve selected the books that have specifically added new destinations to my Travel Bucket List.  In a couple of cases, I wasn’t even necessarily the biggest fan of the book itself, other than the fact that it inspires me to travel, lol  I’ve visited a couple of these places already but would go back in a heartbeat and most of them I’m still dying to visit for the first time.

I love the mix of books you have up there. I have sadly only visited two of those places, and want to visit the others as well. I thought Lu did a good job showing us a little bit of Tokyo in Warcross. I am such of fan of the author making the setting a big part of the book, because the only sort of traveling I get to do these days is the armchair variety.

Right? Same here. I haven’t taken a big trip in three years and am way overdue to get a few more stamps on my passport.

Gosh Heidi! That took me back, Suzanne! I loved that story — and Greece — that’s another one on my travel list!

LOL! I almost didn’t put Heidi on there since it’s so old, but man, that book really made me want to visit Switzerland, especially the Alps.

Great list, I read the first two in the Traveling Pants series.
I need to read more F. Scott Fitzgerald, he had such a way with words. Enjoy your week 🙂

I agree about Fitzgerald and have been meaning to read more of his works too. I have The Beautiful and he Damned on my TBR and really should try that soon.

Any book set in Europe usually makes me want to visit. I finally went to London, but I’d LOVE to go back someday. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants definitely made me want to visit Greece.

I really want to go back to London too, not just to see more of the city itself but also to branch out and do some day trips to more rural parts of the country. I hear it’s beautiful.

I recently read The Heart Between Us and the travel bucket list in that one made me want to go everywhere! I read a lot of books set in England, so I would love to go there someday.

I’ve always wanted to visit Greece and having it featured in the Sisterhood books was a great addition. I actually wasn’t a huge fan of the Sisterhood series but the time in Greece was definitely a highlight.

The Outlander series played a big part in my desire to see Scotland! 🙂

The time in Greece was actually probably my favorite part of that book. Oooh, I forgot to put Scotland on my list but that’s on my travel bucket list as well 🙂

Greece would be at the top of my list for sure. England, France and Barcelona as well. Great list. Yay for Big Little Lies lol.

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

Right? It’s also so expensive to travel that even though I love to visit new places, I can rarely afford to do so. Just another reason to love books all the more 🙂

      Suzanne says:

Yes! I don’t know if it was all of that virtual reality stuff or what, but I just wanted to immediately pack my bag and go to Tokyo after I finished that book. Everything about it just seemed so incredibly vibrant!

Heidi is one I recall reading as a child with great affection – especially as I was suffering badly with homesickness myself at the time… It was lovely, if bittersweet, to read that I wasn’t the only little girl who desperately wanted to be elsewhere. Thank you for an excellent list, Suzanne.

It has been years since I read that one as well. In fact, I seem to recall more of the Shirley Temple movie than I do of the actual book, lol.
