Weekly Recap #52: Week of 5/6 – 5/12

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

First of all, let me say Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms who are celebrating today!  My mom is visiting today, so I’ll be joining her for lunch and a movie as soon as I finish writing up this post.  My son chose our Mother’s Day activities so we will be seeing Avengers: Infinity War today.  Probably not what I would have picked for Mother’s Day but oh well, it should be entertaining anyway, lol.

This week started out slow but then went a bit off the rails for me and my family.  We won our last soccer game of the season on Tuesday night but then found out Friday morning that playoffs started the next morning, with our playoff game being at 10a.m.  Normally we have some time in between the last games and the playoffs so no one was expecting the schedule to come out so quickly and for the games to start the next day.  Needless to say, we hadn’t practiced at all going into the game on Saturday.  Even better than that was that our coach had to work and couldn’t even be at the game.  My husband and another parent stepped up and coached the team so that we at least didn’t have to forfeit.  The game ended up being one of the most intense kids’ soccer games I’ve ever watched.  We were tied 0-0 going into the 4th quarter, then with 2 minutes left on the clock, we finally scored a goal.  We thought we had it in the bag then, but with 45 seconds left in the game, the other team tied it up.  Because it was a playoff game, it couldn’t end with a tie, however, so the refs told us that we would play two bonus quarters, 5 minutes each.  At the end of those, we were still tied, so then we played a sudden death shoot out.  After a round of that, we were still tied!  Finally, during the second shoot out round, the other team scored on our goalie and the game ended.  Our season may be over, but I could not be prouder of this group of kids.  They did not go down without a fight.  And it was over 90 degrees and brutally sunny while they were playing so it was all the more impressive since I was melting into a puddle in my chair just watching them.

Aside from the soccer drama, not much else has gone on here.  Work, home, read, watch a little TV.  I’ve actually spent way too much time watching the TV renewals and cancellations this week and stressing out about whether or not Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be renewed.  As of my typing up this post, S.H.I.E.L.D. is the only show ABC hasn’t made a decision on yet so I’m on pins and needles about that.  This week’s episode was so fantastic too!  Any Philinda shippers out there?!  OMG!

On that note, I think that’s about it for me.  I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

I’m looking forward to your review for Brightly Burning! I’ve heard it’s a retelling of Jane Eyre in space. Being a big fan of the Brontes, I’m hoping it’s good hehe

Did you enjoy Infinity War? Happy Mother’s Day!!

Happy Mother’s Day! I hope we hear about Agents of SHIELD soon, too – we haven’t watched the newest episode yet, so I’m anxious to see how it ties into the movie.

Happy Mothers’ Day, Suzanne:). That soccer game sounds a real nail-biter – and in such heat, too! Our soccer season is in the winter, so I’ve watched games in the pouring rain and bitterly cold, but not with such high temperatures! I hope this coming week is a good one for you – I’ve also got Furyborn lined up to read this coming week so I’m interested to see what you make of it.

Thank you! Oh yes, I’ll definitely be interested to see what you think of Furyborn. I keep seeing mixed reviews so I’m a little nervous but we’ll see how it goes.

Doesn’t your son know that mom is supposed to pick the activity for mother’s day? I had to do what my mother said. I need to push Twinkle up my TBR. I am eager to read it. Hope you love it!

Haha, I know right? Thankfully Infinity War was fantastic so I ended up being very glad that we spent part of the day seeing it. I’m not enjoying the book that I’m currently reading so I may be setting it aside in favor of Twinkle this evening.

Hope you had a great Mother’s Day with your mom and son. It’s been years and years since I’ve read anything by Koontz. Hope you’re enjoying The Crooked Staircase. And From Twinkle, With Love. I’m sure I’ll pick that one up at some point since I enjoyed When Dimple Met Rishi. Looking forward to your review for Leah on the Offbeat!

Hope you had a great Mothers Day!!! And hopefully enjoyed Infinity War too lol. Sorry to hear about the soccer game, but clearly the kids played amazingly and really gutted it out in that heat! Sounds like an awesome game. 🙂

Crossing fingers for Agents of Shield! I did hear that Inhumans got canceled but apparently that wasn’t a very good show anyway? At least what I heard. Hopefully shield makes the cut!

I did have a great Mother’s Day, thanks. And Infinity War was amazing so I couldn’t be too hard on my son for picking that as our Mother’s Day activity, lol.

ABC just announced that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been renewed for a 6th season so I’m really stoked about that!

OO you’re reading some interesting books! I have to say I went to my daughter’s soccer games for 5 years and we had weather everywhere from around 40 to 105 (Minnesota). The season only went from May to the beginning of July. The tournaments were usually right after July 4th, I think So I’ve been in my winter coat and gloves but then had to have bandanas frozen in coolers. Anne – Books of My Heart

Our spring season runs from early April until mid May and those first couple of games can be super cold. Thankfully the rest are usually played in milder temps.

Our kids never cease to amaze, right? Sounds like that was quite an exciting game for sure, and hope you enjoyed The Avengers! I was very much disappointed that Designated Survivor won’t be back because I have been so hooked, as well as The Brave and Valor. I wasn’t surprised at all that Deception didn’t make the cut though. The show just didn’t seem believable at all. Happy belated Mother’s Day and Happy Tuesday! Hugs..RO
