Can’t Wait Wednesday – Spotlight on BLACK WINGS BEATING by Alex London

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is BLACK WINGS BEATING by Alex London.   The comment on the cover from Kendare Blake is actually what got me excited about this book.  Blake describes Black Wings Beating as having “Clever writing; boisterous, endearing characters; and threats coming from every direction.”  That definitely sounds like my kind of book!

From Goodreads:

The people of Uztar have long looked to the sky with hope and wonder. Nothing in their world is more revered than the birds of prey and no one more honored than the falconers who call them to their fists.

Brysen strives to be a great falconer–while his twin sister, Kylee, rejects her ancient gifts for the sport and wishes to be free of falconry. She’s nearly made it out, too, but a war is rolling toward their home in the Six Villages, and no bird or falconer will be safe.

Together the twins must journey into the treacherous mountains to trap the Ghost Eagle, the greatest of the Uztari birds and a solitary killer. Brysen goes for the boy he loves and the glory he’s long craved, and Kylee to atone for her past and to protect her brother’s future. But both are hunted by those who seek one thing: power.

I have to admit, birds creep me out a bit, but I like the book’s focus on a twin sibling relationship.

I have a coworker who does that. She has no idea why either, but she’s even afraid of ducks. It makes for some comical moments at work since our office is near a duck pond, lol.

Haha, I’m like that with blurbs a lot. It’s like ‘Okay, now I need to actually read the book to make sense out of what the blurb was trying to tell me.”
