Can’t Wait Wednesday – Spotlight on THE WICKED KING by Holly Black

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  It is a meme that I have  loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is THE WICKED KING by Holly Black.  I know this book is still nearly a year away, but I just finished The Cruel Prince, the amazing first book in this series, last week and I really need to know what happens next with Cardan and Jude!  NOTE:  Don’t read the synopsis if you haven’t already read the first book because it’s a bit spoilery.  Just know that it’s a fabulous series and you need it in your life!  And how about that gorgeous cover?!

THE WICKED KING by Holly Black

Publication Date:   January 8, 2019

From Goodreads:

The enchanting and bloodthirsty sequel to the New York Times bestselling novel The Cruel Prince.

You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.

The first lesson is to make yourself strong.

After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.

When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

Woah, the second one is out already? I hope you enjoy it when you get to it, Suzanne! I don’t think I’ve read a bad review of The Cruel Prince at all.

I haven’t seen either bad reviews for The Cruel Prince either. I definitely see it ending up on quite a few Best of 2018 lists.

Out of all of the Fae books I’ve read, I think I’d be more likely to recommend this one to someone who isn’t the biggest fan of those kinds of reads. There was so much going on in terms of the politics, the conspiracies, etc. that most of the time I’d forget I was reading a Fae story. It felt more like Game of Thrones, lol.

Wow, now that’s a long wait. It’s no real secret that I wasn’t as in love with The Cruel Prince as many, but I am still interested in seeing where it heads. Plus, that cover is lovely!

I feel like I’m the only person who hasn’t yet read The Cruel Prince – I’m not sure if it’s for me, as I really need a protagonist I like…

Wow, looks like a good one. Love that beautiful cover! Okay I skipped the blurb because yeah, I need to read the Cruel Prince. This makes me want to read it even more.

LOL. I’m glad you skipped the blurb. It surprised me when I read it that it had so many spoilers in it. I hope you enjoy Cruel Prince when you read it. It reminded me a lot of Game of Thrones the further I got into the book so it might be a good fit for you 🙂

I still haven’t read any of Holly Black’s novels and I really need to do something about it. I keep hearing amazing things about this series. I will definitely be adding these books to that long TBR. I hope that the second book is one that you enjoy just as much. 🙂
