Weekly Recap #42: Week of 2/25 – 3/3

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

So the big excitement this week was the “Bombogenesis” wind storm that struck the East Coast Thursday in the overnight hours.  My week had been so nice and peaceful up until that point and then all heck broke loose.  As soon as that wind started howling, all hope of sleep was lost because I was so worried trees were going to come down on the house.  Almost as soon as the winds started, we received an automated phone message from the local school system saying that the schools would be closed on Friday because the National Weather Service was predicting hurricane force wind gusts.  Based on what I was hearing outside, I was completely fine with that decision even though it came it at nearly midnight, lol.  Thankfully though, aside from the lost sleep on Thursday and Friday nights, the only other damage we had were tons of limbs strewn across the yard.  We were very fortunate.  Many other areas around us didn’t fare as well with lots of downed trees and power lines.  The wind has finally slowed down but there are still a few thousand people without power in my city.

Needless to say, I didn’t go out much the latter part of the week or over the weekend, so I got tons of reading done.  I finished The Family Next Door and Little and Lion, both of which were fabulous, and I got a nice start on The Cruel Prince, which I’m also really enjoying so far.

I also finished Tarnished City by Vic James yesterday and probably won’t be writing a full review for it on the blog.  I’m pleased to have gotten it off my TBR as part of the March Take Control of Your TBR Challenge, but aside from feeling that sense of accomplishment, the book itself fell flat for me.  I was able to finish it but I didn’t feel like much of anything happened and I was much less invested in the characters this time around.  I’m sorry to say that I don’t think I care enough about them to continue on with the third book and see how it all ends.

Not too much else happened. That or else I’ve forgotten it because of the excitement of the storm.  I did finish the first season of Big Little LIes on HBO and am looking forward to seeing what they do with the second season.  I’m now looking for new shows to watch, so if anyone has any suggestions for shows either on basic cable, HBO, or Netflix, I’m all ears. 🙂

I think that’s it for me for now.  I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

That storm hit our area on Friday/Friday night. The wind was crazy! We got lucky and didn’t lose power, but there are so many people around here who don’t have power.

I just finished How To Stop Time, so I’ll be looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

It was such a crazy storm. I’m glad to hear you got lucky as well.

I picked up How to Stop Time on a whim at the bookstore this weekend so I hope it’s a great read.

oh I see so many good books here Suzanne!I got the “Bombogenesis” too since I live in New England. Glad to hear you only got limbs across the yard. Three big sections of my fence are down and we have to repair our deck on the lake 🙁 Sorry you couldn’t sleep! The wind usually bothers me but for some reason it didn’t this time. I can’t believe they didn’t close our schools and my daughter’s soccer tournament Weymouth MA wasn’t cancelled. These 9 years old girls played with the heavy rain, cold temps and wind gusts. I’m ok with that because I like her to be a little strong warrior BUT it was kinda of nasty for people to drive there! I feel bad for people without power in my city. We were lucky and never list power. Upside… I got tons of reading done too! Can’t wait to hear about The Cruel Prince!

Oh wow, I can’t even imagine trying to play an outdoor sport with the wind we were experiencing.

Enjoying The Cruel Prince so far and hope to finish it today if at all possible.

It really was scary. I hope we don’t experience another storm like that anytime soon. I’m really excited about the new Kristin Hannah too. I was so surprised that it’s already my turn at the library for that one since it’s so new 🙂

Glad you didn’t have damage to your home. It is definitely scary! We had alot of strong winds here too and the lights flickered but that was it. Then snow and rain.
That meme is too funny, I smell books in my spare time too lolol.
Happy reading! It depends on my watching mood, but I enjoyed the first season of Mind Hunter on Netflix not too long ago. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5290382/
I also really liked Alias Grace, which is based on a historical mystery. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1034007/

Glad the storm didn’t hit you guys harder, sounds like it was quite rough! I thought they did a good job with Big Little Lies. Have you seen Marcella or Shetland on Netflix? Those are both good shows.

    Have a super week!

Glad to hear you made it through the storm okay! My area didn’t get hit nearly as bad as others, but there were a few times I thought the lights were going to go out. I was so happy when they didn’t. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed The Family Next Door! I read it a few weeks ago and thought it was amazing. I loved the characters & the mystery was interesting as well. Have a great week!

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

Oh yes, The Family Next Door was so good. I couldn’t put that one down once I started it. I hadn’t read anything by that author before but can’t wait to check out some of her other books now.

Wow wow wow! So much to say but I’m visiting off my phone so forgive my typos and Autocorrect and I hope I get to everything.

First of all, my goodness! I’m glad you guys are okay! I didn’t even know about the storms! 😱 I’m glad the message got out from school, even if it was late and I’m glad you weren’t effected any worse. I hope the clean up and patch up is quick!

I am glad that you got some extra reading in. I’m really looking forward to your review of Shadow and Bone and I hope you are enjoying the second book so far!

I had The Cruel Prince on this month’s TBR but I’ve also ordered two bookish crates (one a preorder for May’s ACOFAS and one an old stock box from January) and I’m pretty sure that book is coming in the January box so I’ll be waiting until that arrives!

I see Red Winter on STS! How exciting! I’m so excited for you!!! Can you tell?!?! 😂 I really cannot wait for you to read it and then to know what you think. I hope you love it!

Hope you have a good week and hope the weather stays calm for you.

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

Yes, thank you, we got really lucky with that storm. I know some people who had no power for 3-4 days I feel very fortunate.

Shadow and Bone was soooo good. I’m starting Siege & Storm this week because I just have to know what happens next. I’m so glad I went back and read this series.

And yes, Red Winter is finally in my hands and I hope to get to it soon after all of the praise that you and Lindsey have heaped on it!
