Weekly Recap #40: Week of 2/11 – 2/17

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

This week was such a mixed bag weather-wise.  We started out with wintry temps but by Thursday and Friday, we had spring teaser temps in the 60s and 70s. Those two days were fantastic, but sadly, today we were right back to highs in the 30s and sleet.  Mother Nature just can’t seem to make up her mind, lol.

Aside from the weather roller coaster, it was a fairly typical week here.  Valentine’s Day was okay, not as romantic as I would have liked, but it seems to always be that way when the holiday falls during the week.  We’re both just too rushed and too tired to put much effort into it.  Heck, I even bought my own box of chocolates this year just to make sure I got what I really wanted.  That evening though, the hubby did manage to surprise me with tickets to see the Dave Matthews Band in concert.  We won’t be going until July, but I’m pretty excited about it.  I haven’t been to a concert of any kind in years and DMB is from Virginia so it’s always fun to support the local boys.

The whole week feels like a blur honestly, in part because I fought a headache all week long and just couldn’t focus on much else.  Nothing over the counter helped at all, and I was just miserable.  I’ve never had a migraine before but when I described what I was feeling to my husband, he seems to think that’s what it is.  I finally called my doctor on Friday and have an appointment to see her this coming week. I also fell behind on my blog visiting/commenting late in the week as my headache grew worse, but hopefully I’ll be able to get caught up this weekend since it has finally eased up a bit.

In spite of the headache that just wouldn’t go away, I did watch a lot of the Olympics coverage as predicted, and I also managed to get a lot of reading done too.  Out of those 5 March 6th ARCs I was fretting about a couple of weeks ago, I’ve finished reading 3 of them and have started the 4th.  I haven’t written a single review for them yet (still working on that procrastination goal obviously, lol), but at least I’m making good progress and should have them all reviewed prior to the publication date.  Because I’ve been so focused on those ARCs, my backlist reading has not been nearly as good as it was last month.  I did finally start a backlist book though, Bruce Springsteen’s 500+ page autobiography.  I’m about halfway through it now and It’s one that has been on my shelf since October 2016, so I’m happy to finally be working towards marking that one off the to read list.

I think that’s it for me for now.  I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

I’m so sorry you were battling with such a miserable headache:(. I used to suffer with migraine headaches a lot when I was younger and even now I occasionally get zapped, though they aren’t as ferocious as they used to be, thank goodness. I hope you can get it sorted out – they are horrible to endure. I hope the coming week is a LOT better!

Thanks, I really hope so too. I’ve always been somewhat prone to headaches but nothing like what I’ve experienced this past week.

I’m so sorry you weren’t feeling well, and that the headache has now gone away. I used to get migraines in college and there was very little I could do to make it better.

Thanks. Yes, that has been my experience so far. And it made my eyes so sensitive to light that it hurt to stare at my computer monitor. I even turned down the displays on my phone and e-reader to make those bearable. Hopefully the doctor can come up with something to help.

Mother Nature can’t make up her mind here either…lol. We had a snow storm last night and this week it will supposedly get up to 70. Sorry about the migraine, I can totally relate. And yay, Dave Matthews Band! Enjoy your books, the Bruce Springsteen autobiography sounds interesting.

I’m really enjoying the Springsteen book. I’m actually doing the audiobook so that I can hear him tell his story. He’s a great storyteller 🙂

“Heck, I even bought my own box of chocolates this year just to make sure I got what I really wanted.” BAHAHA, you are adorable, Suzanne! I really hope your headache goes away. 🙁 Feel better soon. <3 (Also looking forward to your Love, Hate and Other Filters review since I just purchased it!)

Tickets to DMB is such an awesome surprise! The weather here is insane. It snowed last night, is in the 50s right now, and supposed to be 75 by Tuesday. I just go with the flow, and am glad I am not one of those people, who pack away clothes when the season is over. Nice job with the March 6th releases. I read an Aug release by accident yesterday, so now I still have a Feb release to read. Oops. Hope your headache has subsided and stays away.

      Suzanne says:

OMG, right? I’d be packing and unpacking clothes every other day, lol. Thanks on the reading progress. I’m feeling a lot better about my chances of meeting all of my obligations, assuming I actually sit down and write all of the reviews now, lol.

Yay for Dave MAtthews! That should be a good show. And yeah I go to a lot less concerts now but it’s always good to have that live show experience. 🙂

Hope the h eadache goes away and you feel better soon. I’ve been watching the Olympics too, trying to catch as much as I can at night.

The Family Next Door looks good, I’ll have to take a closer look at it.

Yeah, I’m pretty stoked about Dave Matthews. I was sitting here trying to think of the last time I went to a concert and I’m drawing a complete blank, lol.

I hope you won’t have another of those headaches again. They really suck.
I love watching the olympics but my reading is suffering haha.

I really liked Gilded Cage but STILL have to yet to read Tarnished City. >.>

      Suzanne says:

I didn’t even realize Tarnished City was out. I had put a hold on it at the library a while ago and was shocked to see if pop up on my e-reader this week. I’m looking forward to seeing where James takes the story.

I’m sorry to hear you weren’t feeling well. I hope next week is much better for you. We don’t celebrate Valentine’s day. We actually had leftovers for dinner that night. However, the Mister did stop by the home store and picked up a couple of plants for me. I’m a bit of a crazy plant person and am always looking at the plant section when at the stores. LoL He laughed that he was the only guy in the store buying a couple of garden plants, while everyone else was purchasing bouquets of flowers. HaHaHa

I can’t wait to start it. It has been on my reading list for a long time too. Thank you, so far I’m feeling much better than last week 🙂

Ooh tickets are definitely a fun gift! I’m sorry about the headache though. Hopefully your doctor will have more answers this week, especially if it WAS a migraine!!

I’ve been doing well with review books so not a lot of backlist book reading at the moment. haha I’m still a bit behind on writing book reviews though – granted, all the books don’t come out until March or April, so it’s not too bad.

Yeah, it’s odd now because I have no idea if it was a migraine or not. All I know is that I was miserable and nothing would even dull the pain.

I’m hoping for a better month for backlist reading next month. I’ll be pleased if I can at least get the Springsteen book finished before the end of the month since that’s a 500+ page nonfiction that has been on my TBR since October 2016.

I hope you get to feeling better, I don’t know how you managed to read with that headache. I’m about to start reading the Wicked Deep tonight. I hope your week goes better than the last.

Thanks. I ended up turning the display way down on my ereader to cut down on the glare and the brightness. It wasn’t ideal but it was better than just lying there thinking about how much my head hurt, lol.

Headaches can be the worst. I’ve had migraines in the past but luckily, I think they were tied to a medication I was taking and I don’t get them much since I stopped it. However, I get sinus headaches A LOT and it seems like at times, nothing will make them go away. Congrats on getting so much read and I look forward to seeing your reviews. Some great looking books there.

I’m not surprised you’re getting crazy weather as I live in a neighboring state and the weather this past week can best be described as confusing. Someone mad Mother Nature really mad. Hope you love the Dave Matthews concert. It’s been so long since I’ve been to a concert!

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

Right? Mother Nature is being nice to us so far this week with temps in the 70s but I’m sure it won’t last. I wish it would though. Today was absolutely beautiful.

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

Thanks, I tried the Excedrin Migraine the last time I had one of these headaches and it did help a bit. I saw my doctor today though and she gave me something stronger and wants to run a couple of tests to see if she can find the underlying cause of the headaches since I’ve never had them before now.

Mother Nature has been WEIRD. It’s 60 degrees today in Chicago and tomorrow will be 35. Ugh.

And I think I’m the only person not watching the Olympics. I get soundbites from Twitter and it seems like the games have been pretty exciting!

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

They have been pretty exciting so far. I like some sports better than others but it just always impresses me what these athletes can do, It’s inspiring.

I like to buy my own chocolates also, after 29 years of marriage my husband finally realized I don’t like dark chocolate of any kind with marshmallow filling. I’ll keep you in my thoughts when you do to the doctor this week, hopefully the headaches are not something more serious. The little cartoon was cute. I hope you have a great week ahead and are able to catch up on the reviews you want to get written.
