Weekly Recap #39: Week of 2/4 – 2/10

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I feel like I say this almost every week but I’ll be so glad when spring gets here.  The older I get the more I dislike winter and want nothing to do with it.  It’s not even that we get all that much snow here — it’s that everyone overreacts as soon as the first flake falls.  We’ve probably had less than 4 inches of snow total since Christmas, yet my son has only had 2 full weeks of school since then.  Endless 2 hour delays and cancellations, which he loves of course.  Me, not so much. LOL!

The only good thing about delays and cancellations is that I can squeeze in a few extra minutes of reading on those days, so I’ve had some pretty good reading weeks this winter.  I still need to write the reviews for them, but I finished reading all of my February ARCs this week and even finished one of the 5 ARCs that I need to read and review prior to March 6th.  I still don’t know that I’ll get to any of my backlisted books this month, but I’m feeling more optimistic about getting my Netgalley deadlines met anyway.

Aside from reading, I feel like I spent most of the week camped out in front of the TV, although I can’t remember much of anything that I actually watched the first half of the week.  Work was busy this week so I think I basically just came home and zoned out, lol.  I’ve been glued to coverage of the Olympics since Friday and expect that will continue for the next couple of weeks.

I think that’s it for me for now.  I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

That’s a great silver lining: all the cancellations and delays allowed you to finish you so many books. Since my train is almost always late, I always use the time to read and that’s how I finish most of my books.

Can’t wait to read your Honor Among Thieves review. Hope you enjoy your new books.

    Happy readings Suzanne!

The Olympics have been so good so far too. I’m watching the figure skating now and it’s just so incredible to see what the athletes can do.

I watched a little bit of the Olympics last night, but I think I like the summer games a bit more than the winter games. But since nothing else will be on tv for the next couple weeks, I’ll probably watch quite a bit!

The figure skating and the snowboarding are probably my favorite things to watch during the winter games, but I’m sure I’ll end up watching most of it.

I nabbed Queens of Geek this week. The Swoon Reads sales were too good to pass up. I had won Little Big Love from Goodreads, but will be reading that closer to publication (I still have 6 Feb books to read). I abhor winter, but it’s mostly only been cold here. At this moment, it is still pouring, but relatively warm. When I start to grimace, I remind myself that this could be snow.

It has poured rain here all weekend. I looked outside and my entire yard is a swamp. Definitely made it easy to just stay inside and read where it was warm and dry, lol.

I know, I am so over winter. We’ve had snow here and ice and dreary days. I want the sunshine and warm weather back.
It sounds like you are doing great with your reading, I am trying to get my Netgalley deadlines met too.
And I’ve been watching the Olympics also, last night’s snowboarding and figure skating were good!
Happy reading and enjoy your week.

Ooh yes, I’ve been enjoying the snowboarding and figure skating too. Every time I watch figure skating, I wish I had learned how to skate.

That’s hilarious about the snow. We lived in Virginia for a year and they were the same way. The snow plows would be waiting at the side of the on ramp for highways before the first flake would even hit. It was insane, but I had a good laugh about it. Back home they hit over 100″ of snow so far this year. While I miss the snow, I don’t think I’d want to have to shovel all of that.

We’ve had several snow days and stuff too, it is aggravating how winter disrupts things! I’m so over it too. Bring on spring for sure! Plus the cold too. I think that’s my real issue. 🙂

I always watch the Olympics. It’s fun.

Hope your books are good. I thought Queens of geek was pretty good, and Honor Among thieves looks good too.

I don’t like the cold either. I wait at the bus stop every day with my son and it has just been so miserable standing out there.

I really enjoyed Honor Among Thieves. My review for that goes up tomorrow.

I too am ready for spring. I miss my flip-flops. Folks handle snow here just find as we often have snow covering the ground all winter long. It is the temps that get me. Last week the warmest day was 19. UGH! Yay for getting ahead on reviews!

Yes… I’m absolutely ready for spring and summer! I love the look of The Wicked Deep – what a fabulous cover! I’m very impressed you have managed to get ahead with your reviews and hope you have a great week:)

Congrats on catching up on your February review books! I’m almost caught up on mine as well, and it’s been nice to see my Netgalley % go up because of it. I read The Wicked Deep last month and thought it was amazing. I loved Shea’s take on witches. Have a wonderful week! 🙂

      Suzanne says:

Oh yes, and I really need to get my Netgalley % back up. I had been so good and gotten it up to 82% but then immediately got approved for all of these March 6 ARCs and now I’m back down to the mid 70s again. I can’t wait to start The Wicked Deep. I have one library book to finish and then that one is next.

Hah! Your arms really DO hurt when trying to read in bed. I’m ready for the spring too — I don’t usually mind winter, but it’ll be nice to be able to be outside more. Yay for getting lots of reading done though. I’ve been doing pretty well with that too, which makes me happy.

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

Right? It’s totally a workout, lol. And yes, I’m really hoping for another great reading week. I want to get these ARCs out of the way so I can squeeze in a couple of backlist books for February.

I see I few books on your list that I’ve been wanting to get like the Wicked Deep, Honor Among Thieves and ok all of them. I’ve been doing good on reading, trying not to get in another reading rut. I hope you have a great week.

Ahhh, My Name is Venus Black! I can’t wait for your review!! I am dreading winter over here — i do not like the cold, any kind, but mercifully no snow over here! If only work could have 2 hour delays and we don’t have to make up time when that happens lol

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

I’m working on my review for My Name is Venus Black now. It was quite good, especially in the sense that most of it is told by the children who are involved in the story, which just broke my heart.

I’m really excited for it and hope to start it tomorrow, if I can stay awake long enough to finish my current read tonight, lol.

Suzanne! How are you??????? I’m still…. oh… about TWO MONTHS BEHIND! Yeesh. I’ll get there eventually!

School sounds crazy at the moment! I hope things get back on track soon. It sounds as though your reading schedul is going wonderfully though!

The Wicked Deep has an amazing cover and I want to read it just for that…

I hope to be able to catch up with you properly soon (and on my blog side too obviously!) and hopefully Feb will see me being more organised!

Hey, welcome back!! I’m starting The Wicked Deep tonight and am really hoping for a great read since that cover is the main reason I requested it, lol.
