Weekly Recap #36: Week of 1/14 – 1/20

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

Unfortunately I’m not off to the greatest start on my resolution to get more organized and schedule my posts far in advance.  Hopefully today will be productive, but as of right now, I have only two posts scheduled for the rest of the month.  Usually I’m a little better off than that, but someone unexpectedly quit at work last week and there was endless drama about it that followed me home each night and I just couldn’t focus on writing anything.  Thankfully we’ve come up with a game plan to move forward until her replacement is found, so hopefully now I can buckle down and really work on my goal.

That said, I have managed to finish reading all of my January ARCs and am writing the last of the reviews today so I guess I am doing better at staying on top of my ARCs so far, lol.

I’m thinking of following in the footsteps of several of my fellow bloggers and just doing mini reviews for most of the backlisted books I’m reading.  Unless I have a lot to say about a pre-2018 book, I like the idea of just making the review short and sweet and moving on, saving my lengthier reviews for ARCs and 2018 releases.  I’m thinking/hoping it will allow me a little more time to focus on things like discussion posts, which I really want to do more of this year.

On the non-blog front, I had this random nostalgic moment and started rewatching the old Party of Five series on Netflix.  I had forgotten how much of a crush I had on Matthew Fox, lol.  And the new season of Grace and Frankie dropped this weekend too, so I can’t wait to dive into that. Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda are just comedy gold in that series. Love it!

Oh well, time to start working on reviews and posts to schedule!  I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

I usually manage to schedule at least 12 posts a month in advance. January has 17 total (but I took Dec off so had time to write them). I don’t think February will be as successful. But I’m still working on those big discussion posts too.

I have heard Grace and Frankie is very good. I should make time to watch it. lol that Woody meme is spot on. Happy reading! I need to read the John Green sooner than later.

I can relate to Woody. That has totally happened to me. Nice job on the January ARCs. I still have two Jan eARCs (though I have read some Feb releases) and I know there are some Jan releases in the BEA books, but me and physical books don’t happen often. My co-bloggers usually read those. Glad the work drama was resolved quickly. If it makes you feel any better about your 2018 goals, I said I would read more of my own books. Of the 22 books I have read, only one was a shelf book. So, slow start on that one for me. Hope you have a great week!

I hope things at work settle down soon. It sounds like you’ve been doing well with getting to your ARC’s. I am sure you’ll be ahead in blog posts again soon. I hope you are enjoying your reading! You’ve got some great books coming up from the looks of it. I hope you have a great week, Suzanne!

Yes… I need to sit down and schedule my blogs, too! Hope you manage to get straight this week. I’ve also got Furyborn, so I hope it’s a great read. Have a great week.

Thanks, me too, especially since I was doing so well the first half of the month. I was pretty productive today so I feel better about where I am. Thanks, hope you have a great week as well!

I think shorter reviews are just fine! I’ve been doing that with some of mine too, because sometimes there are just so many and I need to get caught up. LOL I NEED to read Winter – that will be a ‘soon’ read.

      Suzanne says:

Haha, exactly! I feel like I could catch up on my backlist a little better if I wasn’t spending so much time actually reviewing those older books. I just started Winter last night and love it so far. I’m excited and sad at the same time that I’m finally finishing that series.

I like mini- reviews, they’re quick and fun to read. And I’m a little more ahead but frankly it’s hard to stay that way lol, seems like something always comes up!

the school for Psychics looks cool, and I’m thinking of reading the Hazel Wood too. It seems to be getting good buzz.

Right? Something definitely always seems to come up in my life. Thankfully I had a productive evening and got several reviews written and even a discussion post. I’m feeling much better about myself now than I did when I wrote my wrap-up post. We’ll see how long it lasts, lol. I’m curious to see what you think of The Hazel Wood. I’ll be posting my review Friday. My reaction was a little mixed, but I enjoyed it overall.

I have actually been good with getting some posts ahead. I am sure it won’t last long though lol. Good job for getting to all your January ARCs. Mini reviews are the best. They are easy to write and lovely to read. Hope you enjoy Winter. Have a great week!

Glad to hear you’re doing great with getting ahead. Hopefully I’ll be following in your footsteps soon and getting my act together, lol. Yes, I’m hoping the mini-reviews will work well for me, especially on those older books where I don’t necessarily have all that much to say. They seem like such a great time saver so I can focus on other things.

Sorry that you haven’t been able to shake off the work drama! I’m been trying to be better about separating my work from my home life so I know how frustrating it can be to have work on your mind even when you’re in the safety of your own home! I need to start doing mini-reviews, especially for my DNFs.

I hope you enjoy Our Dark Duet! For some reason I wasn’t in the right mindset for it, but I hope to get into it again one day!

I actually turned my cell phone off once I got home those last couple of days and it helped a lot because I can’t stand work drama and definitely don’t like when it encroaches on my personal time.

I keep pushing Our Dark Duet back for some reason. I just haven’t felt in the mood to read it yet. Hopefully I’ll finally get started on it this week.

I can so relate! I started off the month really on top of my scheduling, but now I’m back to finishing a post the day before it goes up, haha 🙂 But I do hope your work issues will get better soon! And yes, Woody is so relatable too 🙂

Haha, that is me in a nutshell right now, although I thankfully had a productive evening and got all of this week’s posts ready. I’m feeling a little better about things and hoping I can keep up the momentum.

I’m the same this month.. I’ve decided to revert to less posts per week cause I’ve just been soooo busy.

Congrats on finishing all of the ARCs though 🙂 I also agee about a short and sweet review.. I’ve recently switched to a similar format and I’m enjoying the freedom it brings 🙂

Thanks! I’m definitely pleased at my ARC progress this month and really hope that I can keep it up. That’s great to hear that the short reviews are working for you. I’m hoping they’ll give me more freedom as well

I forgot about Party of Five! I was in love with the other guy – the one who got a drinking problem later I think/ I never could resist dimples. Sorry about the work drama. When so much is going on I have a hard time reading. I think my brain is full. I’m a fan of short reviews. Sometimes I just don’t have that much to say about a book! Have a great week!

      Suzanne says:

Ooh yes, Scott Wolf. I like him too 🙂

I have that same issue when it comes to the work drama. It just clutters up my brain so I can’t focus on anything else until it’s resolved. Thankfully this week is starting off on a quiet note so hopefully it will continue.

One of my goals was to have posts scheduled ahead of time and I’m failing. I have none scheduled but I really want to work on that this weekend. I’m so sorry someone quit unexpectedly that sounds so stressful. I hope you guys have better luck finding someone in the next couple days or weeks. I’m in love with the cover of Speak Easy, Speak Love, it is gorgeous. I’ll have to add it to my TBR. I hope you have a wonderful week!

I started out with none scheduled but thankfully had a productive Monday evening and got the rest of this week’s posts written and scheduled. I don’t know if I can consistently do that but it does feel nice to have done it at least once, lol. I’m almost finished with Speak Easy, Speak Love and have enjoyed it so much. If you’re a fan of Much Ado About Nothing, I think you’ll love it. 🙂
