Can’t Wait Wednesday: Spotlight on GOODBYE, PERFECT from Sara Barnard
“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about. It is a meme that I have loved participating in for over a year now, but as Jill is no longer actively posting, from now on I’ll just be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa, which is a spinoff of the original WoW meme.

My selection for this week is Goodbye, Perfect by Sara Barnard. I’m excited for this book because I just finished my first book from Sara Barnard last week, A Quiet Kind of Thunder, and fell in love with the way she develops such amazingly realistic characters and with the way she writes about friendships. I was ecstatic to learn that she has another book coming out and that I only have to wait a few weeks to get my hands on it!
GOODBYE, PERFECT by Sara Barnard
Publication Date: February 8, 2018
From Goodreads:
When I was wild, you were steady . . .
Now you are wild – what am I?
Eden McKinley knows she can’t count on much in this world, but she can depend on Bonnie, her solid, steady, straight-A best friend. So it’s a bit of a surprise when Bonnie runs away with the boyfriend Eden knows nothing about five days before the start of their GCSEs. Especially when the police arrive on her doorstep and Eden finds out that the boyfriend is actually their music teacher, Mr Cohn.
Sworn to secrecy and bound by loyalty, only Eden knows Bonnie’s location, and that’s the way it has to stay. There’s no way she’s betraying her best friend. Not even when she’s faced with police questioning, suspicious parents and her own growing doubts.
As the days pass and things begin to unravel, Eden is forced to question everything she thought she knew about the world, her best friend and herself.

I’d love to hear what upcoming book releases you’re waiting on this Wednesday? Leave me your link in the comments below and I’ll stop by and check out your CWW selection for this week. 🙂
I am going to be book-poor buying all Barnards releases this year (I think there are 3 or 4 listed on GR). A Quite Kind of Thunder won my heart, and I absolutely need to read her backlist, as well as any of her new releases.
Same here. I saw a couple of on her backlist that sounded very good.
I can’t wait for this one either
Hopefully we’ll both enjoy it!
Such a pretty cover and what an interesting premise. Makes me want to read it and fin out if everything tours out okay! 🙂
Same here!
I remember your review of A Quiet Kind of Thunder, and how much it made me want to read that one. I’ve heard a little about this one and am really curious. I hope you get a chance to read it soon so I know if I’ll want to too!
Thanks, me too!
This sounds like a ripped-from-the-headlines book, although from a slightly different perspective. I hope you enjoy it!
Doesn’t it? It’s one of those things that unfortunately really does happen occasionally. And what an impossible situation for the friend to be put in.
I am adding this to my TBR because it sounds so good. Thanks for sharing. Great pick!
Thanks!
This book sounds too good to pass up; adding to be read pile. I really like the cover too. Hope we both enjoy it!

Thanks, me too!
Oh, this sounds good. Thanks for featuring it. Putting it on my list.
You’re welcome!
I’ve heard fantastic things about A Quiet Kind of Thunder, and this one sounds fantastic as well! I’m curious to see what choice Eden makes.
I am too. What an impossible situation to be put in.
oh one of those teacher-student romance! I hope she tells the police where they are! 🙂
I do too. I can’t believe what an impossible situation her friend has put her in.
Seems really interesting…though, I have to say, if my teen friend was dating a teacher, I’d have told someone. LOL Even if I thought it was an okay relationship (not that much of a gap or something…). I can see how a lot of teens WOULD keep it secret though.
Same here, and I’d also hope that none of my friends ever put me in such an impossible situation.
Looks like a good one, and ooh best friends and secrets. 🙂
Right?
Oh – this one presses ALLL my buttons! As a teacher, I HATE it when someone from my profession crosses that line and betrays a student… Though teenagers do always feel they have stand by their friends, don’t they? What an interesting and disturbing premise.
Yes, this one reads like something ripped from the news headlines. The friendship angle is definitely the appeal here for me. One friend putting another friend into an impossible situation.
Oh my YES! This is one of those friendships I need to know everything about!
Right? Same. It’s an impossible situation to put someone in.
Ai, I don’t know about this. I’m a teacher and I can’t stand these kind of stories. I mean, seriously a teacher with a student. Oh no! I can’t.
Yes, this one reads like something ripped from the news headlines. The friendship angle is definitely the appeal here for me. One friend putting another friend into an impossible situation. I hope Eden does the right thing even if it means wrecking her friendship with Bonnie.
