Weekly Recap #34: Week of 12/31 – 1/6

Hey everyone! It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I hope that everyone’s new year is off to a great start!  We had our first major snowfall here this week, and by major, I mean about an inch, lol.  We don’t do snow well here though so an inch was enough to close my son’s school for two days and because it still hasn’t melted off the roads, we’re waiting to see if he will have school tomorrow.  We’ve also been in the single digits all week and we don’t do that well either.  As I’m typing, my back door is frozen shut and my cat, who normally loves to go outside and explore for a bit, is sitting here looking at me like “Please fix this, Mom. Make the cold white stuff go away!” It’s supposed to finally hit 40 degrees here tomorrow and I’m so excited. I think it will be the first time in my entire life when I’ve been happy to see a Monday, haha!

All of these cold and miserable temps made for a great reading week though.  I stay curled up in my reading chair for days and have already managed to read three books for 2018 and have gotten a pretty good start on a fourth.  That of course means that I’m now way behind in writing reviews and in visiting your blogs, but I’ll be blog hopping and writing reviews today so hopefully I’ll be all caught up by this evening.

Oh and, kind of random, but I also got hooked on the cutest new Netflix series.  It’s called The Worst Witch and is based on the book series of the same name by Jill Murphy.  I had never read the books before but I really enjoyed the first season and can’t wait for new episodes this March.  It’s a bit like Harry Potter except that the school is an all girls’ school.  It’s a lot of fun and I highly recommend it!

Yes, the cold temps and snow make for nice reading weather. It’s been freezing here too this past week. Enjoy your books and the Netflix series.

Thanks! Yes, I think the only thing this weather is good for is that it gives me an excuse to stay inside and curl up with my books 🙂

I watched the Worst Witch with my daughter when it originally aired (in the 90s maybe?). It was adorable. I absolutely loved A Quiet Kind of Thunder. I need more Barnard in my life.

I know it’s early but I have a feeling that A Quiet Kind of Thunder has already secured a spot on my 2018 Best of list. I just loved everything about it!

Oh yeah, it has been just miserable because we’re just not used to the temps we’re getting. Glad we’ll be hitting the January thaw soon, lol.

Sorry you’re freezing cold. I hope the weather quickly improves – it’s never a happy thought to realise that now Christmas is over, the worst of the weather is yet to come… I haven’t yet read any Leigh Bardugo, but those covers are gorgeous – have a great reading week, Suzanne:)

Ugh, this weather has been the worst! So cold! But – it is good for reading, because really, who wants to leave the house?

The weather seems to be crazy all over! Hope things warm up for you soon. They’re forecasting a warm up here in the 20’s and 30’s and that’s gonna feel like a heat wave!

The Hazel Wood I keep seeing around, and it looks pretty good.

The Worst Witch sounds fun. 🙂

The weather has been pretty ruthless hasn’t it? My cat has got major cabin fever (I usually let him sleep on the patio).

I need to read Hazel Wood and Shadow Song soon, I hope you enjoyed Hazel Wood!

It is freezing almost everywhere! It is awful. I am curious if my son will have school tomorrow, they were out all last week. And we do have some weird ice storm coming tonight, so I guess we’ll see in the morning. I’m ready for Spring. 🙂 Enjoy those really amazing books you got. Happy reading and stay warm.

The Worst Witch is popular in our house too. It’s a really cute show, isn’t it? I am glad you are making the best of the cold. I’ve been thinking of all of you caught in the extreme cold temperatures. I can’t even imagine. I hope it warms up for you soon. I hope you are enjoying Nevernight. I have that on on my TBR pile and was just looking at it this morning. I am looking forward to your upcoming reviews of Hazel Wood and The Immortalists. Have a great week, Suzanne!

Oh, you’re making me cold just thinking of that weather you’ve had!

I had no idea there was a new remake of The Worst Witch. Here in the UK, there was a BBC show based off The Worst Witch books which aired in the laate 1990’s I believe – I literally loved that show!

Lots of great new incoming books and some upcoming review titles I’ll be keeping an eye out for. Happy reading!

I just happened across The Worst Witch on Netflix and thought I’d give it a go. I didn’t even realize until afterwards that it was based on an older book series. It’s a really cute series too. I’d definitely recommend it 🙂
