Weekly Recap #20: Week of 9/24-9/30

It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

Happy October, everyone!  This is my favorite time of year.  The temperatures are finally cool enough that I’ve been able to get outside and comfortably walk around my neighborhood.  The leaves are changing colors and Halloween decorations are starting to pop up everywhere.  October is also my birthday month, so yay!  I may do a birthday giveaway on the blog to celebrate, so stay tuned for that.  I’m also still hoping to do one when I reach (and keep) 1,000 twitter followers.  I’ve reached 1,000 three times this week but then always seem to drop a couple (those pesky marketing bots), but we’re definitely getting close to that giveaway as well.

Aside from enjoying the fabulous fall weather, soccer has once again dominated my week.  After that amazing game where my son scored the three goals, his team has really struggled, earning their first loss of the season followed by a tie.  That was a bummer not just because they had been playing so well, but also because it meant we ended up with extra practices this past week to try to get back on track before we start playoffs next weekend.  I did try to read while sitting at the practices, but that was kind of a fail.  I did manage to finish and review The Rules of Magic and All the Crooked Saints this weekend, and also finished Dear Martin, which I’ll be reviewing later this month for a Blog Tour.  And at long last, I have finally started reading Crooked Kingdom!

Not too much else is going on right now, although I am planning a short trip to NYC in November.  New York is my favorite place to visit so I’m really looking forward to that and am curious to see if I’m able to get my blogging act together enough to schedule some posts for while I’m away, haha.

Anyway, I think that’s it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

I loved SoC, I am going to have to suck it up and check the physical book of Crooked Kingdom out of the library, since it doesn’t seem they will be acquiring the ebook any time soon. –sigh– Happy birthday month! I hope everyday is a little celebration of you.

OMG, it’s massive too, over 500 pages. Feels like I’m carrying a brick around in my bag, lol. I keep checking the library to see if the e-book becomes available so that I can switch over to that instead. Thank you for the birthday wishes!

This is my favorite time of the year as well! It’s honestly the perfect temperature, and I love all the fun things that come because of it – apple picking, pumpkin picking, haunted houses, etc. I’m sorry to hear about your son’s team 🙁 Hopefully this week will bring some wins for them! I love the title Murder over Mochas. I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts on the book. I recently bought Worst Nightmares as well and I can’t wait to dive into it. Everyone seems to love it so I’m hoping that applies to me as well. Have a great week, Suzanne! 🙂

Yes, I’ve read several great reviews of Worst Nightmares so I have high hopes for that one. Murder over Mochas is one of those ‘cozy mysteries.’ I’ve never read one before so I’m pretty excited to see if I enjoy it since those kinds of mysteries seem to be so popular. Hope you have a great week too!

This is also my favorite time of the year 🙂 it’s still sunny, and the leaves are so beautiful. I just dislike the snow, so I can’t say I’m waiting for it. Which is why it’s so great to have autumn 🙂
I’ll also reach 1000 Twitter followers soon! Like 6 to go. I hope they don’t keep dropping like that 😀 I never notice though, cause I don’t really look back, I guess.
I finished The Rules of Magic too, and I loved it! Curious about your review.
    Have a great October 🙂

I know, right? If I never had to actually go out in the snow I would love it, but I just hate trying to get around and drive in it.

I really loved The Rules of Magic. It’s one of my favorite reads of the year. I just loved watching Franny and Jet, knowing that they would grow up to be the aunts in Practical Magic.

I have been trying to talk my husband into going to New York for forever. I would love to go one day. A Poison Dark and Drowning is one that I am going to have to check out. Enjoy the new book and your week coming up. Thank you popping over earlier. 🙂

I love fall and the leaves have been really falling here this week. It’s nice too seeing the pumpkins and all the seasonal stuff coming out. 🙂

I’m really curious about Hillary’s new book, and I’m reading Six of Crows now so eventually I’ll get to Crooked Kingdom. I’ve been wanting to read them for a while and now that I’ve started I keep getting sidetracked *sigh*

Sorry to hear about the soccer games, but good luck with the playoffs!

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

Getting sidetracked is definitely understandable. Between all of the other books I want to read, the Fall TV season starting, and other interests, I’m really having to push myself to stay focused on my reading.

Oh yes, I really enjoyed Dear Martin. It’s similar to The Hate U Give but comes from the perspective of a young man who has been racially profiled. I couldn’t put it down once I started reading.

Thanks, Alyssa. Hope you have a great week too!

Happy October! YAY for Crooked Kingdom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so excited to hear your thoughts. 🙂 Also Bardugo writing more books in the Grishaverse? Possibly some of the most exciting bookish news I’ve heard in a while. Well, that and Schwab. 🙂

I REALLY need to read that Cluess series. I’ve been dying to ever since the first book was buzzed about. Oops.

Love your totally random this week! 🙂

I just finished reading it this weekend. It was so good. Definitely a series I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a great fantasy read.
