Weekly Recap #10: Week of 7/16 – 7/22

Hey everyone!  It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

This past week was our hottest week of the summer thus far, so needless to say, this bookworm stayed inside all week because I don’t do 100+ degree temperatures.  Because I was stuck inside all week, I did manage to get three books read, two of which were for my Summer TBR Wipeout challenge so now I’m making pretty good progress on that.  Where I didn’t do so well this week though was writing reviews.  I actually only posted one last week and have 5 I need to sit down and write.  I’m struggling with a couple of them because even though I loved the books, I’m having a hard time putting into words exactly what it was I loved about them.  Do you ever  experience that?  Anyway, I hope to get a few written today to get back on track.

What else happened this week?  Oh, I FINALLY got to go see Wonder Woman in the theater. OMG, such an incredibly badass movie.  I loved everything about it.  Gal Gadot was perfect for the role, and I was especially blown away by all of the Amazon warrior training scenes at the beginning of the movie.  I loved the movie so much that if I could have, I would have stayed and watched it all over again.  Can’t wait to get that one on DVD and I highly recommend it if you haven’t already seen it!

Well, that’s pretty much it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

Wonder Woman was epic, and I’m really excited to hear that Wonder Woman 2 is already in the works. Glad to hear you enjoyed Dear Martin. I won it in a giveaway and am really looking forward to reading it.

I definitely have a harder time trying to explain why I loved a book as opposed to why I didn’t like a book. When I really love a book, it’s more just like a feeling I have when I’m reading it; but when I don’t like something, it’s usually very easy to pick out reasons why. And yeah, the weather this week has been brutal! I feel so conflicted during the summer – I want to go out and enjoy the outdoors, but I can’t stand the heat!

Exactly and I’m having a really hard time finding the right words to convey that feeling. All words seem inadequate for some reason. I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels that way about the summer heat. I hate feeling like I’m wasting time I should be outside, but once the temperature reaches a certain point, I just don’t enjoy being out there at all.

It has been insanely hot here, so going anywhere is just miserable. Luckily I like to read and so does my daughter. Your books coming up are really good one. I have the audiobook of Strange the Dreamer and I really hope to get to it soon. Hope you enjoy them all. 🙂

Yes, I hope to post it either Thursday or Friday. I just need to decide what I want to say about it. I really enjoyed it though. Such a unique read.

That totally random pic is awesome 😂😂

I hear you on some reviews being tough to write – totally agree!

Yay for getting to see Wonder Woman! I’m glad you loved it. I would have also rewatched it immediately if I could have!

Sorry the weather had been so hot, but at least you got loads of reading done!

Hope you have a great week this week!

Right? It always seems so much easier to write reviews for books that I had a lot of issues with than it is to write reviews about books that I really loved. No clue why.

Wonder Woman was so amazing! It also has me even more excited than ever for Wonder Woman: Warbringer.

Thanks! Hope you have a great week too 🙂

Oh yay, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed them both. I thought Illuminae was pretty amazing so I look forward to tackling Gemina soon.

Wonder woman does look good, can’t wait to see it. And Gal Gadot looks fabulous in the role- physical but graceful as well. Seems like spot on casting there. I just saw the Justice League trailer and she looks good in that too, as does Jason Momoa as Aquaman which I wasn’t expecting.

Anxious to see what you thought of illuminae and One Of Us.

OMG, right? I saw the Justice League trailer yesterday and it looks fantastic. Aquaman definitely surprised me the most. Jason Momoa looked very impressive – not at all like the blond Aquaman with the peach outfit from my cartoon days. My sister and I were both just sitting there like “WOW!” since we used to watch the Superfriends cartoons together every Saturday when we were kids.

The heat has been keeping me inside too, but it was so worth it to drag myself outside in it to see Wonder Woman. Hands down, favorite movie of the year so far. Hope you have a great week!

I agree 100%! Even though I had never heard of Gal Gadot before seeing the movie, she really was perfect for the part. Can’t imagine anyone else being cast in the role. I’m so excited to hear that a sequel is already in the works!

I’m hoping to have a great reading weekend as well. They’re calling for 2-4″ of rain here so I’ll have my nose in a book as much as possible since there will be no temptation at all to set foot outside.

    Hallo, Hallo Suzanne!

Sorry it took me a bit to swing back round – a bit of a crazy two weeks! 🙂 I wanted to say, you’ve intrigued me with several posts I want to click-over & read! Also – don’t even get me started about record breaking humid heat waves! Today was my Mum’s birthday and it felt 115+ but was in the upper 90s whilst it made us melt & feel as though we were walking on the rim of a volcano as the heat was that intense! Ugh. I loathe Summer! 🙁 NOT my favourite Season at all – Spring is for extreme allergies, Summer is for hibernation and I can play in Autumn & Winter! Aye.

Yes!! I sometimes take half of forever to resolve how best to describe what I LOVE about a novel I am seriously attached too and wickedly love reading! I sometimes find the hardest reviews are the ones where we have so many inspiring thoughts and so many takeaway moments within the narrative – how do we sort it all out and put those thoughts & moments into our reviews!? Sometimes I write even longer reviews for the books whose depth of character, world and journey are so well-attuned to the story being told – it cannot be spoken about in shorter length! (technically I am writing one of these right now on behalf of The Woman Who Breathed Two Worlds watch for it soon!)

I hope you have a wonderful week of reading!

Know your not alone! Sometimes the hardest thing about being a reader who blogs their reading life is finding a way to properly articulate our thoughts and feelings into the fullness of space we give to our reviews! This is why if I hear from someone who reads one of my reviews (either on my blog, through a DM or privately by PM) it warms my heart because I know then, somehow everything I put down on the review not only blogged the heart out of the story (which I love doing!) but it resonated with ‘them’. In the same vein of thought it registered with me as I read it! I hope the same is always true for you!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who sometimes struggles to put their thoughts into words. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
