Weekly Recap #16: Week of 8/27 – 9/2

Hey everyone!  It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

This was my vacation week, and although I’m sad to see it end tomorrow, I had a nice, relaxing time.  My son and I hung out quite a bit, which was nice since he starts back to school on Tuesday.  We had cool, rainy weather off and on all week so it made for great reading and movie marathon days.  My son and I watched A Dog’s Purpose (OMG, what a tearjerker!), Lego Batman, and Boss Baby.  Man, I love Redbox. Those movies probably would have cost us $100 to go see them in the theater and get snacks, etc. and we were able to see them all for just $4.25.  We also went to his school on Friday and met his new teacher.  He was more excited to see the class roster than to meet the teacher.  After a year of being in different classrooms from most of his friends, they are all reunited this year.  I feel sorry for the teacher, haha!

In blog-related news, I got a lot of reading done this week so that was nice.  I haven’t posted my review yet, but Warcross by Marie Lu was my favorite read from the week. It was outstanding! The One Memory of Flora Banks unfortunately ended up being a DNF.  I sympathized with the main character and her condition, but the constant repetition reminded me of the movie Groundhog Day, which I wasn’t a fan of either.  I found myself rapidly skimming through, just looking for anything that was new, and it just got to be tedious, therefore the DNF.  I finally got around to reading A Perfect Obsession, a Netgalley request that I was woefully behind on.  I’ll be posting my review for that this week. It was a pretty good read, although I did have a few issues with it.  I’ve also just started reading A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, a much-hyped 2017 release.  So far it is living up to the hype and is just hilarious.  It’s a huge book but I expect to knock it out in a day or two.

I also only have one more ARC to read for September deadlines so I’m coming out of my vacation, feeling like I’ve been very productive.  I do have 6 ARCs to read for October though so I’m planning to go ahead and get started on those later this week so that I don’t end up in a hole.

I think that’s it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

It sounds like you got alot of reading and relaxing done on your vacation. I can’t believe it’s back to school time already. Yes, I like Netflix too it’s so convenient. OMG about A Dog’s Purpose, I have the book but I haven’t read it yet, I know I’ll be crying.
Happy reading and enjoy your Sunday.

I cried when I saw the trailer for A Dog’s Purpose, so I couldn’t imagine what a mess I would be if I watched the entire film. Sorry to hear you DNFed Flora. I know it was difficult for some. For me, I got used to the style, and it was worth the push through. My co-blogger and I loved How to Hang a Witch (and she loved book 2 too!). Hope you enjoy your new books.

Oh yeah, I cried the big ugly cry all the way through that movie. Glad to hear you enjoyed How to Hang a Witch. I saw it on sale at Amazon and couldn’t resist buying it. Thanks!

I am glad you had a nice vacation! I am always sad to see them come to an end too. I don’t know if I can watch A Dog’s Purpose. I have a hard time with books and movies where animals die–and I’ve heard in this one it’s more than once. Yay for your son being in class with some of his friends again! My daughter was really disappointed to find out she only new one child from last year’s kindergarten class. Everyone else is new to her. She’s already made friends though and sees her old friends at recess, so it’s worked out. She loves her teacher–and if first impressions mean anything, I like her too. It should be a good year. I hope. LOL

I just ordered Warcross in audio. It sounds so good. I am glad you enjoyed it! I like the look of your new books! I wouldn’t mind reading those either. I hope you enjoy them!

    Have a great week, Suzanne!

I have to admit that I sobbed pretty much the entire way through A Dog’s Purpose. That’s a bummer about your daughter not having many people she knows in her class. Thankfully kids do seem to make friends very quickly at that age. My son was in a similar situation last year and within a few days, he was coming home talking about all of his new friends and how great they were. Hope your daughter has a wonderful year 🙂

A Dog’s Purpose was definitely a hard one to watch. I cried almost all the way through it. Thankfully the other two movies were funny ones to cheer me back up, haha.

Haha, I feel the same way. Thankfully, at least as of right this moment, my son says he’s ready to go back to school. We’ll see what he says tomorrow night!

I was pretty ready for my son to go back, which I felt bad about, but thankfully he was ready to go back too so I ended up not feeling quite as bad about it, lol. Hope you have a great week too and that it’s not too painful sending your kids off to school!

I’m glad to hear Warcross was good, I’m planning on reading that one this week. Can’t wait! Glad you had a nice vacation too…

The Blackbird Season looks pretty interesting, and yay for A Feast for crows. I though Watch Me disappear was pretty good.

Oh yay, I can’t wait to hear what you think of Warcross. At first I thought it was going to be like Ready Player One but I ended up liking Warcross way more than that one.

You can never have enough books! I’m glad your vacation was nice and you got to spend a lot of time with your son before his school starts. 🙂

I have Gentlemen’s Guide that I need to read ASAP!
