Weekly Recap #12: Week of 7/30 – 8/5

Hey everyone!  It’s time for another weekly recap post of all things happening on and off the blog. This week I’ll be linking to the Sunday Post, which is hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to Stacking the Shelves, which is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

We had a change in our weather pattern this week so it has felt like fall most days.  While I’m not ready for summer to leave us quite yet, the cooler weather did make for some lovely outside reading time for me.  I got two more books read than I had originally planned to, so yay! I’ve been working on my Summer TBR Wipeout challenge and finally, after nearly a year of them sitting on my TBR, I managed to get Heartless and Caraval read.  I adored Heartless and had mixed feelings about Caraval, but for those interested, reviews should be up sometime soon.  I also read an ARC of The ReadyMade Thief, which was another book that was just okay for me.  It was kind of like The DaVinci Code with a YA protagonist, but there was so much going on in the plot that seemed unnecessary, my interest kept waning.  I pushed through because I wanted to know why things were happening and who was ultimately responsible, but overall it just wasn’t a good read for me.  I doubt I’ll be writing anything more than what I just did on it.

See, lots of reading this week.  I also read an ARC of Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker.  I had a few issues with pacing at the beginning, but ultimately ended up devouring this book in a day.  I hope to have this review posted tomorrow.  Lastly, I also started (and hope to finish it today!) a YA thriller called Pandora Project.  I’ll be participating in my very first blog tour this Friday with a review of this one, so I’m excited about that. 🙂

Beyond that it has just been work as usual.  I do have a vacation coming up at the end of this month.  I haven’t decided if I’m going anywhere or not though. I just needed to use up some leave before I lose it, so it may just end up being a Stay-Cation where I read and relax at home alone for a few days.

Since there’s not much on TV in the way of new shows right now (aside from Game of Thrones, which I love), I’ve been on Netflix every night binge watching the series, Shameless.  It’s an addictive series that definitely lives up to its name.  I think my mouth hangs open in disbelief most of the time while I’m watching, lol. William H. Macy is brilliant in it though.

Oh well, that’s pretty much it for me.  Have a great week, everyone!

It’s been feeling like fall where I live too. I’m thrilled about it because I love the cooler temperatures. I also had mixed feelings about Caraval when I read it. One part of me loved the concept, but another part of me couldn’t connect with the characters. Plus some of the plot twists were just a bit too nutty for my liking. Forest of a Thousand Lanterns looks great. I’ll be excited to hear your thoughts on it. Happy reading, and have a great week!

I love the cooler temps and reading outside is one of my absolute favorite thins to do, so I’m really happy to be able to do it in August without melting into a puddle in my chaise, lol.

I had those same issues with Caraval, especially the issue with connecting with the characters.

Hope you have a great week as well!

I’ve seen quite a few people who are currently reading Project Pandora and the cover looks interesting. Can’t wait to see what you think of it!

Thanks! Yes, I’m definitely ready for fall temps. Can’t say I’m ready for cold weather yet though. I wish there was a way to make fall last a bit longer before moving on to the bitter cold of winter.

I think this is my first visit to your blog, and I see we have at least some interests in common. Cress was a lot of fun; I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I’ve been debating whether to read Heartless, as I’m not always a fan of books that try to make a villain sympathetic. (I didn’t read the Levana book for the same reason, even though I loved the rest of the Lunar Chronicles.) Also, your Grapes of Wrath meme made me laugh.

I see from your bio that you’re a proofreader. How did you get started in that field? I’m a freelance indexer; I’ve sometime thought of branching out and adding proofreading to my services. If you’d be interested in talking with me off-blog about what you do, please let me know.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I’m actually starting Cress tonight so we’ll see how it goes. I adored both Cinder and Scarlet so I think I’ll love this one as well.

Honestly I just kind of fell into the proofreading job. I had initially applied for a completely different position, but when the hiring manager saw that I had a degree in English, she asked if I would be more interested in a position as a proofreader.

Well, hopefully you’ll enjoy it more than I did, especially since the majority of the reviews are so positive. I think maybe I had just over-hyped it in my own mind.

      Have a great week!

I’m impressed that you managed to get so much reading done this week! I bought Caraval when it was on sale for 99p. I hope I enjoy it. I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts on it!

I hope you enjoy Caraval too. I enjoyed it, just not as much as I had hoped to. I think I got so caught up in the hype that my expectations were just set way too high.

I’m glad to hear you’ve gotten a lot of reading in! That’s awesome. I really do hope to read Heartless soon. I just want to read Winter first. Gotta get all her books finished before Renegades this fall!

Emma in the Night is sort of newly on my radar, so glad to hear it was good other than some pacing issues? I’m looking forward to it. and Caraval. Yeah I just don’t know, I hear good and bad things. I may give it a shot though.

Shameless huh? I just finished Shetland so I’m on the hunt for a new show to binge. I’ll have to give it a look.

Caraval is my most anticipated release of the year, and I still haven’t read it! *shame on me, shame on me* I’ve read many great reviews of it, so I cannot wait to read yours, and see why you had mixed feelings about it. Enjoy the cooler weather, Suzanne! Spring is just around the corner on my side of the world – how crazy is that! Have a great week 🙂

I missed my round up this last week. Oops. I’ll have to double up next week. I was just too busy with life!

I also loved Heartless 😍😍 That book made me sob, and I can understand mixed feelings about Caraval but I can’t wait for your reviews to both flail and fangirl together and to see what things may have turned you off Caraval.

Schwab! I can’t wait to read more of her books. Ha ha. I’m content for the moment with Shades of Magic and I really need to find time to finish this second book. I’m loving the series so far and think she may turn out to be another favourite author. I’m discovering many new ones this year it turns out! And yet I’ve been writing this year off as being a bad reading year… I guess numbers wise it is but I’ve read some amazing books so I shouldn’t complain!

    I hope you’re having a wonderful week!
