Waiting On / Can’t Wait Wednesday – Spotlight on All the Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater

New WoW

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which encourages fellow bloggers to spotlight upcoming releases that we’re excited about.  This week I’ll also be linking to Can’t Wait Wednesday, hosted by Tressa.

My selection for this week is All the Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater.  I’ve never read anything by her before, and even though I have several of her series in my TBR pile, I’d love to start with this one because I love the emphasis on family that we see in the synopsis.

ALL THE CROOKED SAINTS by Maggie Stiefvater

Publication Date:  October 10, 2017

From Amazon:

Here is a thing everyone wants:   A miracle.

Here is a thing everyone fears:  What it takes to get one.

Any visitor to Bicho Raro, Colorado is likely to find a landscape of dark saints, forbidden love, scientific dreams, miracle-mad owls, estranged affections, one or two orphans, and a sky full of watchful desert stars.

At the heart of this place you will find the Soria family, who all have the ability to perform unusual miracles. And at the heart of this family are three cousins longing to change its future: Beatriz, the girl without feelings, who wants only to be free to examine her thoughts; Daniel, the Saint of Bicho Raro, who performs miracles for everyone but himself; and Joaquin, who spends his nights running a renegade radio station under the name Diablo Diablo.

They are all looking for a miracle. But the miracles of Bicho Raro are never quite what you expect.

Maggie Stiefvater has been called “a master storyteller” by USA Today and “wildly imaginative” by Entertainment Weekly.  Now, with All the Crooked Saints, she gives us the extraordinary story of an extraordinary family, a masterful tale of love, fear, darkness, and redemption.

I haven’t read anything by her yet, but from what I hear, it seems like people either love her or hate her. Hoping I fall into the ‘Love her’ category since this one sounds so good. Fingers crossed!

What an intriguing book this is! Blurb tells me not nearly enough as much as I’d like, but I can’t deny my interest is seriously piqued!

Right? I want more as well. Knowing that it focuses on family is enough to entice me, but I’m hoping for a few more teasers before it comes out.

I’m really looking forward to reading All The Crooked Saints! I’m also looking forward to reading Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo. I really like the title of your blog. I’m assuming you’re a Libra as well?

I’m new to blogging and book reviewing, and I was wondering if you had any tips for newbie bloggers and book reviewers.

If you have the time, please check out my blog @breenysbooks. I’d love any feedback. Have a wonderful day.

Hi there! Oh yes, I can’t wait to read Language of Thorns either. I just finished reading Six of Crows recently, my first Leigh Bardugo book, and now I’m ready to devour all of her other books.

      And yep, I’m a Libra too! 🙂

Welcome to the book community! I just checked out and followed your blog. It’s lovely, by the way. The one good thing about a blog is that you can pretty much do whatever you want 🙂 The main tips I have are to do exactly what you’re doing as far as being active in the community and visiting and commenting on other blogs. Consistent posting is a good idea too. You definitely don’t need to post every single day, but if you can do 3 or 4 posts a week, that usually helps keep people coming back to your blog and so helps with your stats if you’re looking to build those up for trying to request Advance Review Copies (ARCs). Speaking of which, if you are interested in getting those ARCs, I definitely recommend signing up for an account on Netgalley.com if you haven’t already. It can take a while to start getting approved for books, but the longer you blog and the more you build up that follower base, etc., the more approvals you’ll start to get. One other tip I would say is to try to vary the types of posts that you do. Alternate book reviews with tags/memes, and then also try to do some discussion posts. One of my own blogging goals for this year is to try to do more discussion posts myself because those are always popular and are one of those things that really makes your blog stand out.

I hope those tips help. I’ve only been blogging for a little over a year myself and feel like I’m still learning everyday, but if you ever have any questions, I’m happy to try to answer them for you. You can always email me at suzanne@thebookishlibra.com.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!

I was lucky to get this one at ALA and I’m so excited. I’ve read some of Maggie’s work, but not all of it. I have, however, read all of the Raven Cycle series and those are great.

Ha, I’m right there with you! This will be my first from her. If I like it, I do plan to try The Raven Cycle since I keep hearing it’s so good.

      Suzanne says:

This will actually be my first Stiefvater book, so I’m pretty excited about it. If I like it, then I’m going to tackle The Raven Cycle.

AhhH! I also can’t wait for this book! The cover is GORGEOUS (which I guess isn’t anything new for Maggie Stiefvater. The Raven Cycle covers are some of my all time favorites!)

      Suzanne says:

This will be my first experience with her books so I’m really excited. If I like it, I definitely plan to try The Raven Cycle next. Couldn’t resist buying those already because of those stunning covers. 🙂

This will be my first Stiefvater book, but if I enjoy it, I definitely plan to move on to some of her series next. I keep hearing The Raven Cycle is amazing.

    Hallo, Hallo Suzanne!

🙂 This was the same novel I was reading about on #CantWaitWednesday’s showcase – again I am unsure if this is an author I’ll rally behind myself — however, I was encouraged reading you haven’t yet read a story by this author either! Perhaps, after you read this one or if you read one inbetween then and now, I might reconsider reading one of her books, too. I just didn’t get a good vibe her stories were for me, but sometimes we can be wrong! I know the key difference is you’ve been wanting to read her stories – I have as well, in regards to enjoying the reviews I’ve read by other bloggers, but still.. I keep holding back. *le sigh*

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

Yes, I get the impression that people either love her books or hate them, so I’m curious to see where I fall on that spectrum. The synopsis sounds so good though so I’m hoping it will live up to expectations. This also seems like it might be a standalone so that seems like a better place for me to start than to jump into one of her longer series. We’ll see how it goes!

I’ve tried reading The Raven Cycle by Stiefvater, but honestly just could not even get into the first book. However, I am SO intrigued by this book and am really excited to read it, so I have high hopes! This sounds wonderfully mysterious and leaves me extremely curious – great pick! 🙂

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

I still haven’t tried The Raven Cycle series yet. I’m not sure if this one is meant to be a standalone or not, but it kind of sounds like it so I figured it might be a better choice for me to see if I like Stiefvater than jumping into a 4 book series. We’ll see how it goes, lol.

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

Doesn’t it sound good? I still need to read the Raven Cycle. I have the first book but haven’t quite made it to reading it yet.

    • Suzanne
      Suzanne says:

I don’t know why I’ve not tried any of her books yet. I know I have a couple of them in the pile in my office. If I like this one, I definitely plan to move on to The Raven Cycle next.

My daughters read and loved the Shiver triology…I was very interested in those, but just never had the time. I love that this new series is set in Colorado…I may just have to give this one a try!
