My Top Ten Favorite Book to Movie Adaptations

top ten tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is a All about the Visuals: Top Ten Favorite Graphic Novels/Comics or Ten Comics on My TBR or Top Ten Favorite Picture Books.

This topic was challenging for me as I don’t read graphic novels, picture books, or comics.  Instead of skipping this week’s post altogether, I decided to go a bit rogue and do my favorite book to movie adaptations.  I don’t know if movies technically count as visuals in the way the prompt intended, but I’m going to pretend they do to suit my purpose.  🙂  Plus, all of these movies are amazing and everyone should watch them anyway! In some instances below, I even prefer the movie to the book and that’s saying something because it’s a rare thing for me to prefer a movie to a book. And I know number 10 is technically a miniseries and not a movie, but it’s just too glorious not to include.

OMG, same here. Doesn’t matter how many times I watch it. This is definitely one where I think the movie is actually much better than the book because the way Robin Williams so brilliantly brought his character to life.

We have so many overlaps! HP, Pride and Prejudice, Hidden Figures (I did not read the book), Roald Dahl books etc. And yes, dead poet’s society was amazing

Princess Bride is the best! Deserves the #1 spot. 🙂 And Lord of the Rings- such a good adaptation. I’ve liked several of the austen adaptations I’ve seen (haven’t seen that one although it gets all the props, but I did see the Sense and sensibility one and loved it), and Dead Poets Society is a great one!

Oh, I loved the Sense and Sensibility one too. I actually went back and forth as to whether to include that one instead of Pride and Prejudice because they’re both just so well done.

    I love TLOTR!
I did not do a list today for myself, I asked my daughter if she wanted to help and list her favorite books!
I never read a comic book.So The only ones I read were the VA and Percy Jackson graphic novels. But we did something a little different. Allyson added some comics she read on her list.

Most of the time I prefer the book formats, but sometimes when the right director comes along, he or she can really create magic and bring a book to life in ways I never could have imagined. I think The BFG is one of those cases. Even though it didn’t do well in the theaters, it’s just a beautiful film.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was one of my favorite books when I was younger, and the movie adaption was fantastic, so I’m so glad to see it on your list. 🙂 And Harry Potter is fabulous as well. 😉 Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! <3

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has always been a favorite of mine as well, both the book and the movie, although I can’t say I was a fan of the Johnny Depp version of the film. That just didn’t fit with how I’ve always imagined the story in my head. The old school version with Gene Wilder is perfect though. 🙂
